OS version? WIN XP 2000

What firewalls you have? Win basic Firewall

Connection type? DSL

Modem brand name & model numbers? Siemens speedstream 4100

Where are you trying to connect from appartment complex

What version of LimeWire 4.12.11

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test worked

Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? no

Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New prob. experienced

Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? cant open application to launch

Default security problem

Go to my computer and open and double click on hard drive(c) and open program files. and locate and open the limewire file. Now locate and open the "limewire executable jar file". limewire should now open.

you should see a security alert "java tm platform SE binary has blocked certain...aspects of limewire"...just click on unblock. If your problem was the same as mine , your problems should now be over. rev.

Default jar file

the jar file is between the two green limewire icons, if you are using lw pro

has something like 7007kb. unfortunately you might have to start up lw this way if you close lw out of your toolbar, each time. no biggie.

This worked but when Limewire finally opened, I didn't get the security alert. I closed out and tried to open it again but it wouldn't open unless I clicked on the "limewire executable jar file".

Will I always need to click the file "limewire executable jar" first before Limewire will open?

You can try these fixes...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s...This will reset your configurations back to default and get rid of any corruption that may of happened...

Default What Worked for Me

You are an angel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had trouble for months and it was such a simple solution!!! Everyone should try this first! (the whole jar executable file thing) I reposted this solution on some other threads cause it's such an easy thing to check! (start with the cheapest/easiest solutions first right?)

For us simpletons on windows xp:

In windows (I have XP)

Go to Start My Computer
Click c:
Click Program File
Click the file that says limewire
find a file name in that folder that says
limewire.jar
(and under it says executable jar file it has a picture of a java coffee cup, at least mine does, about 7007kb)
click that once or twice

(c:\program files\limewire)

Once I clicked on that, i went through the short setup language thing again and it worked fine!!!!

Don't know what'll happen when i shut down again of course, so i'm cramming in some downloads now!

I just made a shortcut of that file to my desktop.

Oh ya, I heard it helps if you disable the "start limewire at startup option" from another thread.

Thank you so so much!!!
