Cannot connect but then my ISP is Virgin Media
 

Can anyone help me. I know that recently Virgin Media blocked Limewire and any other similar format download programs:mad:. Is there any way of getting around this? Is there any downloads that can fix the problem or have I got to go to a new ISP? I have received a very good service from Virgin Media for my internet service :xeri_ok1ani:.

I am operating on Windows XP and as I said earlier my ISP is Virgin Media. I have PC Guard from Virgin Media for my Firewall, Anti-spyware and Anti-virus.

If you need any other information to help I will try and supply it though I am not what you would call a computer wizz:confused:. I have only got Limewire 4.8.1. Would I need to upgrade to 4.12?:sos:

I would be most grateful for any help anyone can give me but please remember I am ok but not great with computers.

I am also new to this and this is my first time using a forum so excuse me if I make mistakes.

I have a 4meg connection With Virgin & I'M Flying no probs.

I have just got my telephone and broadband with Virgin Media and I have the 2MB broadband package. I haven't got the 2 for £20 deal. All that happens is I open Limewire and I get one green light and four red lights and it states "connecting" but it never does. Is the version I am running, 4.8.1 incompatible with Virgin Media or is it something else?

How to use Manual Port faward

Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)"
Removing this update is not Recomended & could make your computer vonarable to attack.

If this update is installed on your computer & UPnP is in use in Limewire,
Try switching to Manual Port faward, using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port faward No, & Listerning port should be set at the same number
In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port faward.

If you are using a router to connect, that will also need configuring.
Find your router listed here, Use this blue link. & dont forget to create a static IP first, & click apply after changing each setting.

I have tried to configure my firewall as you said, I looked to see if the windows update was installed but not being very good with computers I didn't know where to look so I only looked in the add/remove programs folder. The update you told me about wasn't in there. My computer has 42 windows updates it wants to install but last time I installed some windows updates it caused problems with my computer so I haven't installed any since then.

I may seem it bit thick but if there is anything else I can do to fix this problem I would be most grateful. If you could also give me quite clear instructions as well as I need all the help I can get!

can you Do this first, copy or move your 4.8.1 installer to desktop or somewhere safe.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-1.5.11) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer

I followed your instructions though when I tried clicking on your links my computer wouldn't let me link to those web pages so I had to connect to them manually.

I managed to download J2SE Development Kit 5.0 update 11 and netbeans IDE 5.5.

The Limewire link didn't work so I went onto Limewire.com to download the latest version (4.12.11), when I clicked on the windows platform option nothing happened. I tried several times and then tried downloading the beta 4.13.4 version again clicked on the windows platform option and nothing happened. I feel like :bangh:.

Am I doing something wrong?:(

I have tried everything and I have given up on Limewire!:mad::mad::mad:

I then tried downloading Bear Share 6.1 but for some reason that didn't work. It download ok but when I tried running it it came up with a message saying that Bear Share has encountered a problem and has to shut down. How frustrating:(!

I managed to download WinMx and it works fine.:super:

Come on Limewire listen to your customers and admit like other people have said THE PROBLEM IS WITH LIMEWIRE!!!!!!!!!

So many people seem to have the same connection problem but so many of us have tried all the instructions you gave us but it still does not work!:mad:

I sympathise for those of you who have purchased the Pro version and still cannot connect and as for Limewire saying they do not give refunds is extremely unreasonable and here in the UK could be considered against trading standards as it is not "fit for purpose".

All of you having problems with Limewire try downloading WinMX and publish your results on the forum!
