Hello Everyone - I Need Help Connecting I'm new to computer stuff so its not a surprise that I'm stumped - I can't connect. I recently downloaded LimeWire 4.12.11, my system is XP SP2 and I'm using AVG Free Anti-Virus, Windows Firewall, Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware SE Personal. I've done the excemption thing in windows firewall however I dont see a thing on the Connection Status view. The Connection quality remains at one bar indefinitely and there is no indication of a Firewall problem. I should also memntion that I'm in the West Coast Malaysia/Thailand area living on a boat and my internet access is via WiFi. |
I know you've given us some information, but if you could answer all of these questions, it will help more! http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=62652 Thanks :) Dan |

I also am having problems connecting. If anyone had any suggestions, that would be great. Here are as many details as I know: 1. Windows XP 2. I have Norton Antivirus and Internet Security, but I've turned both of these off. 3. How much ram? don't know 4. Hard Disk space available? don't know 5. DSL 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? don't know 7. Trying to connect from my home computer. 8. Limewire 4.12.11 Java 1.5.0_07 9. Windstream 10. When I go there, it says "Page cannot be displayed" 11. nothing else. 12. Pretty much my first try with LW. I downloaded it before and it was doing the same thing, so I uninstalled it and did it again, but it still won't connect. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? don't know Thanks! |
stayonthesidewalk, Have you been able to connect to LW in the past? Try updating your Java to this version. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before installing the new one. Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 Rather than turning off your Norton firewall, configure it to allow LW! Make sure that the XP firewall's turned off...2 software firewalls together will cause problems;) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/226610-post6.html PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall Some people have had probs with a Windstream firewall before...check out this link below & make sure that's not your problem. Cant Connect Otherwise, try to find out the brand & model of your modem/router. Have a look on the devices that connect to your computer (also look underneath). |
