Default Can't connect

Has used basic limewire for about a year then a few weeks ago stopped working. Opens up fine but says 'Establishing a connection' but never does. Purchased Limewire Pro thinking that would help! No! McAfee says it is allowing fullaccess but still a picture of firewall on bottom of limewire screen. Same message came up with both versions of limewire.
1. Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? McAfee (don't know if there is anything else)
3. How much ram? Don't know, but assume plenty.
4. Hard Disk space available? 112GB
5. Connection type? BT Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? BTVoyager 220V ADSL voice router
7. Connecting from : home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have?
Limewire 4.12.11PRO, Java 1.5.0_0.3
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Don't know (how would I find this out)
10. Do this simple test for us. Worked fine
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Have used it for sevral months fine.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Don't know!!!

Windows XP has a firewall. Have you disabled this? You should not have two firewalls running at the same time, as they can interfere with each other.

You could update your Java:

Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Next, try port-forwarding your router (instructions in link):

Port Forwarding for the BT Voyager 220V

As for your ISP, it's the company that you pay for your internet. I see that you put BT in one of your responses. Give this stuff a try and let us know if you have any success.

Good Luck

Dan

Thanks, but as not the most computer literate I'm not sure how to turn off windows xp firewall. Went to control panel, security and allowed access to limewire but that doesn't seem to be enough. Do I need to do something else to turn off the firewall. Is there any way to check what firewalls are enabled onmy computer?

Hello,
This is my first post. Ive used limewire for a couple of years under xp with no problems. Ive recently installed xp x64, and now i have connection problems, or no connection at all. Ive tried searching the forums for x64 connecting problems with no luck. I have a friend who uses limewire with x64 with no problems. Ive done everything listed in the threads. Here are my system specs. winxp x64, onit personal firewall which i disabled, 2 gig of ram, 80 gig of hard disk space, cable broadband connection, dlink dcm 202 cable modem, linksys rt31p2 router, using limewire 4.12 to 4.13 beta, and neither work, the simple test worked and not sharing connection with another pc, i do see a brick wall over globe in limewire, and not sure if using port forwarding or upnp. ANY HELP WOULD BE APRECIATED...THANKS
