Can Anybody Help? Cannot connect anymore for past week!!

I was able to connect a week ago and the only changes I can think of are:

1. I updated my Norton to Norton 360 and tried to shut down the firewall, but to no avail. In fact, Limewire keeps showing the firewall icon even when I have Windows XP firewall security off and the Norton 360 off.

2. I recently tried setting up a wireless network with a Linksys wireless router. Used the software cd that came with router, but I didn't like the connection, so I returned it. Since that day, or so it seems, I haven't been able to connect.

Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Can Anybody Help? Cannot connect anymore for past week!!

Never had problems with connecting. Now I get one green bar at that's it. No connection. I used to be able to connect at work (T1), on my verizon wireless card, and at home via cable modem.

I upgraded from Limewire 4.8.1 to Limewire 4.12.11, hoping that was the problem, but it still doesn't work. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Limewire 4.12.11 twice.

I recently downloaded Norton 360, but I spent half the day on the phone with them and they had me remove the program from my computer and it still wouldn't work. Windows firewall is also disabled.

The only thing I can think of is that I tried installing a wireless linksys system at home a few days back, but disconnected it and returned it because I didn't like the way it worked. It seems since then...nothing.

Any help would be appreciated!!

I use Windows XP Professional

Network Down

If it is down, it has been down for the past 10 days. I don't think it's down because other people are able to connect!:bangh:

Why isn't a single person helping me?

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98): XP Professional
2. What firewalls you have? Norton 360
3. How much ram? 512 MB
4. Hard Disk space available? 27.6 GB

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Dosen't work on any connection, I use T1 (work), Verizon Wirelss Card (on-the-go), & Cable (home).

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have?
LW = 4.12.11 (didn't work with 4.8.1 either).
Java = 1.5.0_02

Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
[B******?, Verizon Wireless Card, Optimum online at home (they told me they aren't blocking LW).[/B]
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Test worked

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Not that I am aware of.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I am experienced user.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, even when my Windows XP & Norton 360 are diabled.

Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.12 offline version....(4th one down)
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Also try deleting your preference folder...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

I also will need to know what the make and model number of your modem/router is..
Optimum Online are known for their shaping of p2p...

Lord of the Rings June 2nd, 2007 05:20 PM

About Norton: (1) Configuring Norton Internet Security

(2) Whenever you update Norton, it may need reconfiguration; Reconfiguring Norton Firewall

If you use Norton FW, then disable XP's firewall. The two are known to clash with each other & results in less security & other side-effects.

Things to try:

* Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

* Try other options in that link about fixes for LW.

* If the above doesn't work, go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change it to manual port forward & change both ports to one between 49152 - 65535 (64049 is a good one to try)

* It's my guess OOL is responsible. They are a very large ISP who control over many regions. They have been known for shaping/blocking p2p or LW in some of those areas. Of course they always say they are not doing it. Check for OOL or Optimum Online threads on the forum. Search those terms & you may get a few tips worth trying. My guess is they have detected your large bandwidth use for p2p & then put the blocks in place.

BTW I merged 3 threads into one I hope you don't mind, just all are same issue & it's easier to keep all posts of same topic together.

:yahoo:I wanted to thank you guys, Wondering and Lord for solving my connection problem. Removing my Limewire preferences folder and removing and then downloading version of Java you suggested worked perfectly!! Can't thank you enough, this had been going on for quite sometime!!
