School Connection Currently, I'm using my school's ISP on my laptop. I was able to download Limewire just fine and visit the site and such but whenever I try to actually open it and use it, the connection status won't go past the first bar and sometimes simply doesn't have any bars at all. Limewire claimed my firewall was blocking it, however, I had configured my firewall to permit Limewire to run. Moreover, even when I disable my firewall, it still claims that it is being blocked by a firewall and can't get a connection.
All I really wanted was to get a few of my favorite songs on my laptop to listen to while I'm here in my boarding home. I have Limewire on my desktop at home and I've never had a problem like this.
I researched the situation a bit and found that schools are now blocking P2P programs, particularly Limewire. Apparently, there is no way to get around the school's firewall except to contact an administrator, which of course, I won't attempt.
It's a little disappointing. I don't go on Limewire religiously and download a ridiculous amount of music. It's just a few songs I'd like to enliven this place up a bit and for some comfort while I do my work or go about my business when here in the boarding home, personal usage basically.
My computer is running on McAfee antivirus, Windows Firewall and antivirus and the operating system is Vista. It's an LG. I can run pretty much most practical applications like AIM and go on plenty of my favorite sites. Limewire's the only thing I can't connect to.
There's no way to access it from this ISP, is there? If not, that's fine. One weekend when I visit my family I'll just use Limewire at their place from their connection and save the songs to my laptop. |
