System details - help us to help you Please.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

Cut n paste Just these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ?
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6.Modem what brand name & model numbers ?
7.Router brand name & model numbers ?
8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ?
9. What version,LimeWire & Java, are you using. Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
10. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
11. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
12. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
13. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
14. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
15. Have you given full permissions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
16. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?
17. In Start & remove Programs, Is this update Installed, "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" ?
If Windows Updates are not seen, Tick the box at top of page, (show updates)
18. Are you using Manual Port faward in LimeWire OR UPnP ?
You can check HERE, IN LimeWire Go, Tools/options/advanced/firewall Config

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

Have you tried the different options here Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link) parts 1-5? When we suggest reinstalling Java, we mean remove all previous versions before reinstalling. I would actually recommend going back to Java 1.5; Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 & installing the JRE "Offline" version which means installing from your computer .. not over the internet. ;)

Lotr Hi man.
Is there a reason why J2SE runtime environment 1.5.0 update 12 is not recommended by you, as I have been directing users to this version, & I have mostly got thanks for this. (makes me think its ok)
Personally I use JRE 1.6.u0 & thats working fine using XP & L/W 4.12.3
Its just hard to find & direct people there.
Your servant.
Peace.

Up until this post, so had I. I had always been giving this link: Java 1.5 (take the JRE), but noticed Birdy had been giving the above link. I didn't realise it was the previous sub-release. I only noticed it was easier for people for see the JRE version lol :D Thanks for pointing that out. It seems to also work for people Birdy has refered it to ... so probably both are ok.

I was originally linking to Java 1.5.0_12 but I had a few people who still weren't connecting...after they reinstalled 1.5.0_11 they could connect/LW would open (depending on what the problem was)! So I've been sticking with the earlier update just for that reason.
