LimeWire Connection Problems Revisited I'm reading on this forum and so many people seem to be having connection problems, including me. My problem is that everything is fine with the program except I don't get connected - only one lone little green bar. I was fine for a while and installed LimeWire sometime in 2006 but somewhere along the line something happened. It's hard to trace what may have happened if you don't use the program every day. I feel sorry for the people who have paid for Pro as many have indicated they have, only to not be able to access the program. I liked LimeWire so much that I was reay to go Pro but glad I did not as the program just won't work. Imagine buying some software off the shelf and it doesn't work! I tried many of the suggestions posted on the forum as many others have and nothing works. It's a thorn in my side. What I haven't done is post all the requested information which they ask you to, including, I think, your dog's name to essentially get the same answer: try this, try that. I have F-Secure anti-virus on my system including Windows firewall and LimeWire still doesn't work despite shutting off both firewalls. Heck, I even let F-Secure allow all traffic. I don't really think it's a firewall problem. I have always had the brick in front of the globe even when LimeWire was working. What I want to ask is why the LimeWire people don't come up with a fix for what is obviously a program issue and not a computer user or firewall issue? Granted the program is free but I'm sure there would be more people going to Pro if they could be assured of a working product. I have downloaded some "competitor" programs but LimeWire is really the best (if you can get it to work). Funny thing is that I can download stuff with other programs since they also involve "Gnutella". Something is stopping LimeWire. It could be a recent download of something. Java? Reading some of the posts for fixes, it directs you to a 2004 post suggesting deletion of current Java and reinstalling some older version. The LimeWire user manual says to use the most recent Java version. If the incompatibility is Java, why can't LimeWire come up with a fix? OK. Let's move on to another reason why I don't think the problem is a firewall issue. I have a laptop and just for the fun of it, I installed LimeWire. Hey, funny thing, it works and there is a globe with no brick. The laptop also has F-Secure. So what I am wondering is with so many people having problems, how long before a fix so we can all enjoy LimeWire and get Pro? I can use LimeWire on my laptop and it's a bit of a pain since it's not my main computer. My worry? It works but will it last? Without anyone knowing what is causing all these problems, it's impossible to tell. HELP! I can tell people are aggravated. I have also wasted a lot of time doing this and doing that but is this how a program should operate? I have even uninstalled and reinstalled. What is blocking the connection? I can see that if it was an isolated problem, it could be traced to a computer or user but let's face it, we have a lot of people with the same problem. I'm sure there are many others that have just given up and no longer bother with it. LimeWire, what gives? Can you fix this? |

You are assuming that your experience with LW is common to most users, when actually it is unique to you. My LW has worked excellent without exception. I have a turbo charged connection without the brick wall. I rarely have a problem with fake files. Recent videos can be a little hard to come by, but with patience they eventually filter down to LW and similar programs. Learn to use Bitzi. Have you tried the beta with the ability to d/load torrents? Do you realize that everyone's setup is different, and the details that are asked for are just a starting point to try and trouble shoot the problem? LW Pro will not fix any connection/installation or any other problems you may be experiencing. If you can't get the basic program to work, why would buy Pro?? When someone says they can't connect, it could be a multiple of different causes, and most of them are covered in the stickies. There is no one fix for everyone and we welcome all the feedback from other members both old and new. So please if you have something constructive to contribute, it will be greatly appreciated and will be linked to accordingly. Otherwise criticising people who are trying to help just creates negative feelings and does nothing to help anybody.

OK. Thanks. I'll spend some time collecting this information and will post back here. Oh, can you answer one question? I did the following as instructed in a post: "Delete the LW Preferences folder called limewire (whilst LW is closed!)" Now if I do a search for ".limewire", I get no results. It's not even in my Recycle Bin. What implications does the deletion of this file have and how come there is no recreation of the folder despite uninstalling and reinstalling? Man I have the same problem - Firewall is blocking my connection! I've been a Lmewire user for over two years with no problems, then a couple months back, a firewall has blocked my connection. The only way I can connect is by starting up in safe mode, which sucks because I have no sound in that mode. It seems to me that at some point I downloaded a file using Limewire that is now blocking my connection. Does anyone have a fix for this??? |

I once had the same problem and have had to go to the use of ultrapeers. But I have also noticed that if I try a different network like SBC DSL then it works. If there are any TIME WARNER ISP users that have Limewire working could you let me know. I have also tried Verizon DSL and that worked as well. |

starchoice Hi. Roll back your java using the link here, JRE6.1.u1 is not working well. Now! Go to, START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs, now completely remove all versions of java. Re BOOT Your computer NOW. Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down. Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 When Download is completed. Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java. How to use Manual Port forward Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" Removing this update is not Recommended & could make your computer vulnerable to attack. For more info on this update, click on this blue link. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-019: Vulnerability in Universal Plug and Play Could Allow Remote Code Execution (931261) If this update is installed on your computer & UPnP is in use by Limewire, Try switching to Manual Port forward using port numbers between 45000 To 65000, (Any Number) Both Manual Port forward No, & listening port should be set at the same number In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port forward. If you are using a router, or modem/router to connect, that will also need configuring. Find your router listed here, Use this blue link. & dont forget to create a static IP first, & click apply after changing each setting.
