Limewire is failing to connect due to firewall
 
Please can anybody help. I am a fairly experienced limewire user and am now encountering this problem of a supposed firewall. It has been like this for about a month or so now. I did have zonealarm as my firewall but have now removed it to try and rectify the problem to no avail.
Alouth i am experienced on limewire, my knowledge of computers is pretty poor, so if anyone can help please keep it simple as you may lose me with jargon......I have cut and pasted the following questions. Many thanks...mark

1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ? XP
2. What firewalls you have ? Did have Zone Alarm but removed it
3. How much ram ? Not sure what RAM is but either 80gb or 512 mb ddr?
4. Hard Disk space available ? 80gb
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ? Broadband
6.Modem what brand name & model numbers ? ntl cable modem
7.Router brand name & model numbers ? none
8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ? House
9. What version,LimeWire & Java, are you using. Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
LW 4.14.0 pro and java 1.6.0_02
10. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)
? ntl ( now run by virgin media )
11. Do this test click here:
http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ? Your test worked
12. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
13. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.? New problem and experienced user
14. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
Yes
15. Have you given full permissions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ? Think so
16. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?
Tried with windows firewall on and off
17. In Start & remove Programs, Is this update Installed, "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" ?
Yes
If Windows Updates are not seen, Tick the box at top of page, (show updates)
18. Are you using Manual Port faward in LimeWire OR UpnP? UpnP

It more than likely is Vigin Media that is blocking your connection as they are known to do this...
Traffic management

There are a few things you can try though...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Also try deleting your preference folder/s...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

Could you also supply the model number for your modem so i can check to see if it has a Nat Firewall...

Wondering Why......you are an absolute genius.....I have done those above things you said to do and guess what? I have a fully operational limewire.....Get in there!!!
