1. When updating Norton or LW, you often need to reset Norton. See Reconfiguring Norton Firewall. Likewise some Windows updates have been known to reset XP's firewall back to default. Make sure XP firewall is disabled. For a start, Norton & XP firewall DO clash & cause many problems including less security .. not more. 2. Try to find out what brand & model your modem/router is. Almost all high speed wireless devices have internal NAT firewalls. Question is whether it has UPnP & if it does, whether it functions correctly. 3. Orange is your ISP. In UK many ISP's have an anti p2p attitude. Also there's a number of major ISP's who have bought up smaller isp's & apply their own anti p2p approach. (So Orange's parent company may be one of the major ISP's, not an independent company itself. So the company may have recently introduced new anti p2p approaches.) 4. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) 5. You didn't say which Java version you have. If you upgraded to Java 1.6 & you have had problems since, remove all java versions & reinstall Java 1.5_11 .. see point #1 in link above. The java may be affecting LW's ability to communicate UPnP with your modem/router. 6. Unless you have your program folder or preferences folder as your download location, then uninstalling LW will not affect your downloaded files or iTunes. What you may have noticed is the file was missing from the LW playlist in iTunes. But not the main iTunes Library. I hope you still have your pro installer. Otherwise uninstalling it will mean you will need to get the new basic or pro ... and for pro you'd need to repurchase it after such a time. |

thanks ill try those things so do u recommend uninstalling limewire and completely wiping any trace of it off my comp? btw when i deleted that track, it showed up in my main library, but when i clicked on it it said....the song ..... could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? |

Uninstall LW as a last resort. Try the other things first. Do not use the add/remove control panel to uninstall LW. Go to Start menu -> Programs -> LW -> Uninstall. If you don't uninstall it correctly you will have major problems. As for the song you lost .. I am not sure. iTunes has been a bit buggy in recent versions. Try searching your computer for it. It might still be there somewhere. If yes, re-add it to iTunes using these techniques: How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) |
