7. My house
8. LW= 4.13.12 Java= 1.6.0_02
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Your test worked!! is what it said...

2. XP has it's own firewall. You can check if it's turned on by going to Control Panel > Windows Firewall. Make sure that the firewall's allowing LW.
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Check if you have any others by looking in C:\Program Files. Also look at the icons in your system tray...if you have a firewall active, it should show up there & when you hover your mouse over the icons it'll probably show the name of the program.
If you do find another firewall, you'll have to turn off either the Windows or other firewall...don't have 2 running at once. Let us know if you find another firewall.

6. Check all boxes that connect to your computer & let you connect to the net. If the Speedstream's the only one you have, find the model number (might be underneath). If there's another box with lights on it, find the brand & model of that as well.

9. Which company do you pay for your internet service?

If LW's just stopped connecting all of a sudden, try updating your Java version & also delete LW's preferences folder. Have a look at this post for more info. Follow the steps right from the beginning, up to point 6.

2. Yup, I checked and it showed that Limewire was Enabled
I turned off my ''personal firewall'' in Norton.

6. Yes, speadstream is all we have. Which number? I turned it over and like the whole thing is numbers.

The model will probably be 4 numbers (eg 5100).

Did you update Java, delete preferences folder etc?? You'll know if you deleted the preferences folder properly - when you start LW it'll go through the setup wizard again. Remember, LW has to be properly closed before deleting that preferences folder.

oh, ok.
Mine's 5200.
Where do I update Java?
And I read that post thing that tells you how to delete preferences and stuff, and it made no sense to me.

Java SE Downloads

Don't install the new Java yet.
Once that installer is downloaded to your computer, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs & remove any Java versions that you have there. Restart your computer.

Now install the Java version that you've just downloaded. Once that's installed, restart your computer again.

Deleting LW's preferences folder will change all of the settings within LW's options (speed, max number of downloads, down/upload bandwidth etc etc). If you're not too sure of your settings, go to LW's tools > options & make a note of how everything's set, so that you can reset things later.

You might have 2 preferences folders - one named .limewire & one named LimeWire. Sometimes there are 2 folders, because different versions of LW have the folder in different locations.

1. Make sure that LW is closed properly by opening task manager (ctrl/alt/del) & see if there's a LW process running. If there is, end that process.

2. Go to Control Panel, double click on Folder Options & then click on the View tab. Make sure there's a dot in the radio button next to 'Show hidden files and folders' then click Apply & click OK.

3. Now go to Start > click on My Computer > double click on C drive > double click on the folder with your username > double click on Shared. Once you're in the Shared folder, look for a folder named .limewire & if you have a folder named .limewire, delete that whole folder. If you don't have a folder named .limewire then that's ok. Close all windows that you have open.

4. Go back to Start > click on My Computer > double click on C drive > double click on Documents and Settings > double click on the folder with your username > double click on Application Data. Once you're in the Application Data, look for a folder named LimeWire (there's no dot in front of this one & the letters aren't all lower case). Delete that whole folder named LimeWire. Close all windows that you have open.

5. Restart your computer. This isn't always necessary, but just to be on the safe side...do it now anyway.

6. Start up LW & see whether it will connect. If LW connects, you're all done & you can go back through tools > options & set everything there to the way you like it.
That quote's part of my instructions in the 'One bar, connection problems' thread which I linked to before. It explains where (& how) to update Java & also exactly how to find & delete LW's preferences folder(s). If it doesn't make sense to you, could you tell me which part you're having trouble with? Then I can explain more.

If you can delete the preferences folder(s) but LW still won't connect, you could try replacing the gnutella.net file. If you go back to this link
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/296950-post15.html
you'll see that there are more instructions for deleting & replacing that file. Point 7 onwards. I've tried to make those instructions as basic & easy to follow as possible

If you're still stuck, try port forwarding for your router. The instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Efficient(Siemens) Speedstream 5200
Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router's setup should all be the same number.
