Firewall shows when it never did before, dir-655, upnp

hi all,

i am using WinXP with SP2. i have a dlink dir-655 router, its pretty sweet. i have comcast for internet.

it has upnp turned on.

i have been using limewire for quite a while... when it was 4.10.x it never had any problems connecting.

since then, i have upgraded both limewire (to 4.16.1) and the router firmware to the newest available.

i don't know at exactly what point, but sometime after 4.12 to 4.14 [i think] the stupid firewall wouldn't go away. it always used to.

i still get five green bars, but like i just said, the wall is still there.

it seems to me that LW should still be able to upnp my router, b/c its still cofigured to be able to do so, (both the program and the router)

i can't be the only person having this issue, it feels like a new problem thats worked into all these new releases of LW.

any ideas? help?? suggestions?

thx.

I Have The Same Thing

I am having the same problem. I recently just updated to 4.14 and I get no connection at all with UPNP enabled on the Westell Versalink Router. I have done everything suggested in the forums. I have also tried to use port forwarding. It didnt change anything. I am back to my original setting. I downloaded every single peice of mp3 downloading software on the face of the planet. BearShare works along with Morpheous. But I get the stupid redirecting to web page because of some copyright infringement stuff. Why does Limewire not connect. At all. I went as far to get my old dsl modem plug it in to the wall and plug my pc directly to it. Turned off the Windows Firewall. Still nothing. Why doesn't LW fix these bugs for us paying customers of their product. If they don't they will have a lot of really angry people.

do u get the green bars or no?

as i said, i get the 5 green bars either way, the difference now is the firewall indicator never goes away, when before it did.

i think LW is not successfully upnp'ing my router.

what is upnp?

MrSinatra January 9th, 2008 02:58 PM

a feature that allows pgms like LW to open the ports on a router they need to.

oh ok... how would i know if thats all working properly and in order with my router??

i have a linksys router attached to my DSL (isp) box on my main desktop computer and i use a laptop.

is anyone who knows what they are talking about going to reply to my thread???

my point is that once upon a time for a long time, LW worked for me and did everything it needed to and apparently could successfully upnp my router without me needing to do anything. now it can not.

WHY?

??Try deleting ALL versions of L/W, then google it(or whatever search engine)and download ver. 4.16

kelfrog1964 January 15th, 2008 04:48 PM

you may have an older version you can't access easily, with the wrong settings

MrSinatra January 15th, 2008 04:54 PM

i don't follow what you mean...

currently i have 4.16.1 installed. is this not the most recent?

i've been using LW for about 6 months, since around 4.10.x or so, but it is only very recently i have had a problem with it. i still get 5 green bars, but i also get the damn firewall.

i don't know why i started to get the firewall, i think there is something wrong with LW.

are you suggesting i uninstall 4.16.1, delete any traces of it from program files, and reinstall to an earlier version?
