Try the fixes in the thread below. Start off by deleting LW's preferences folder(s)
If LW Will Not Connect

If nothing there helps, post back with your system details.

Thumbs down

I'm sorry to say Claire but there seems to be an issue with the lastest LW that no one will seem to just admit to They just post 'fixes' and get ratty with people who don't seem as technically competant as them. The only thing I can suggest is to try another P2P program or an older version of LW and keep an eye on LW until they've fixed the current release. One minute it was working fine, the next it's stopped for 000's of people. All we get is, "check your firewall", "delete this file", "change this setting" etc.
When I first used L/W it worked with no issues, now I'm being told to try all these different things to fix an issue that was never there before....why release an upgrade that doesn't work?
Sorry, I know this doesn't help much but after reading and trying several 'fixes' over the months this is the only conclusion I can come to

Angry No Connection, firewal, vista, etc.

I have Vista, Nortons Internet Security-version 15.5, recently LW 4.18, 4.14 before and have NEVER been able to get my connection to work. Since coming to this site and reading Birdies responses, Lord of the RIngs, Grandpa and whoever else that seems to have a solution, I HAVE TRIED THEM ALL. Open ports, changed LW Vista preferences, show hidden folders. I think just about everything. My boyfriend's computer sits right in front of mine and he can connect so it can't be our connection/router. He has XP of course, and everything works. But mine---NO! I have changed and configured Nortons and LW. Does anyone have something else for me to do!! I wish my IT at work could just sign on and fix for me, but too bad she is not a LW expert. Is there anyone out there that can help my frustration??
PLEASE!

At least for me, I've found a simple solution that works every time. It's only slightly technical. Use Windows Explorer to find the gnutella.net file in your .../Documents and Settings/<your user name>/Application Data/LimeWire directory. Delete this file. When you start LimeWire, it will build a new file and connect almost immediately.

Hope this works for all of you.

Talking Fixed!!!

That was the only thing I think I had not tried. I just restarted and signed back on to share my excitement, and now saw your post! Thank you!! I AM SOOO FREAKIN RELIEVED!! WOOOEEE! That was a pain!!!

For everyone else having this issue, delete the Limewire folder in your computer settings, and restart computer. Then restart LW....Go through the setup and VIOLA!!!!
