Red face Please help before I go mad!!!!!!!! (firewall icon showing)

Hello.

I'm hoping all you kind experts will help a novice. Here's all my info as best as I can describe.

3. How much ram? 3.00 GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 1.98 gb free space
5. Connection type? dial-up broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Siemens gigaset SE587 WLAN dsl
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.16.7 Java 1.6.0_01
9. Who is your ISP? Tiscali
10. Do this simple test for us. worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Used LW on a previous comp. worked fine and needed no configuration so am a novice at trouble shooting.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I don,t really know. How do I find out.

17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? It has never worked since installation.

I have disabled my windows firewall, my norton firewall and also the firewall for my router/modem but I still get a brick wall in front of my blue world. What could it be and how do I check if I have another firewall running. Please help, this is driving me mad.

Fingers crossed. Thanks.

I have to warn you Tiscali is reknown as being anti p2p sharing world over.

Norton & Windows firewalls usually clash, resulting in less security not more. So disable window's firewall, & make a firewall rule allowing LW through on the Norton firewall; roughly like this: Configuring Norton Internet Security.

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall, change the listening port to one between 49152 - 65535. Then go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Performance & disable all those options. Press apply & ok buttons. Then go to File menu select Disconnect. Wait a minute or so. Then File menu -> Connect. See if it connects. If not, then try these options: If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) (especially replacing the gnutella.net file.)

If none of that works, you could try port forwarding your router. There are instructions we can give you. I will not be around but someone else will give them to you. Most important thing when port forwarding is setting up a static ip which is the very first thing you need to do. But think about that later.

Oh btw, make sure LW's listening port is not the same as any other LW on your network.

Limewire stopped working for me one day just out of the blue. It drove me mad, I downloaded Frostwire instead and had no issues, connected fine, but I wanted my Limewire. I tried so many things to get Limewire reconnected, messed with settings in my router, uninstalled, reinstalled, nothing. I just went the this site (from a link in the forums here) and found my antivirus program in the list, I followed the directions for port forwarding exactly, I now have a full connection! Give it a try, can't hurt.

Unhappy Gggrrrr

Thanks for all your help. It did connect earlier for me after changing the settings as you said but now it won't connect again. I only have one bar. I only have a slow internet connection. Does the amount of people using limewire affect my connection capabilities. Sorry if this seems a really stupid question but I truly am a novice.

thanks again for your help.

Did you reconfigure your Norton firewall, as well as changing listening port?

Try a different port in that range that LOTR gave you earlier. Are you using LW during Tiscali's peak hours (6pm to 11pm Monday to Friday, and 12pm to 4pm on weekends and bank holidays)? Have you tried connecting outside of peak hours?

If you'd like to try port forwarding, the instructions for your router are here: Port Forwarding for the Siemens GigasetSE587

You'll need to set up a static IP address first & that info is here: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router all have to be the same number
