Problems with connecting - need guidance

Hi Forum,

Another newbie needing help. I have used LW on and off for the last couple of years with no problems. Then the other day it took ages to search so I downloaded the new version. It would not connect just asked me to set options and then went back to the start-up sequence. I read that I needed to delete '.limewire'. It worked. However, when I opened LW today I had the same problem as before. I tried to fin gnutella.net but couldn't find it to either delete or copy. Need some guidance please.

The gnutella.net file is inside the LimeWire preferences folder & should be deleted for LW 5 as this seems best for LW 5 & it will create a new one. Since you have already deleted the 'old' LW preferences folder once, it will now be called Limewire, not .limewire
Image sample http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post183932 :) Of course this needs to be done whilst LW is closed. ;)

Please confirm path

Hi again,
I have gone into My Computer then into C:\Program files\LimeWire there I have folders named - .networkShare; lib & root. I then have files: Buy LimeWire PRO; COPYING; data.ser; hs_err_pid1980; inspection.props; install; language.prop; LimeWire; LimeWire; LimeWire On Startup; pmf; SOURCE; spacer; uninstall and unpack. have I gone down the wrong path as I still cannot find gnutella.net?

The prefs folder isn't within Program Files :)
You'll need to make sure that your computer is set to show hidden files & folders because the prefs folder is within an Application Data folder, which is hidden by default.

Which OS are you using? There's info for both XP & Vista in the link that LOTR gave in post #2... if you're using Vista then you need to click on the 'prefs folder in Vista link' as well: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

If you're using XP then there are very basic instructions within this thread (click on link): If LW Will Not Connect
:)

Are you using LW 5.0 or LW 5.1? Open LW, click on Help > About LimeWire & you'll see the version number.

still no luck

OS is XP. I have done a search of the hard drives and then put a search on 'My Computer' and still cannot find 'gnutella.net'. It would seem that this file didn't download. :( Do I actually need it to run LW? I ask as someone said to delete it.

You will not find it unless you have Show All Hidden Files & Folders option checked; see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post183932 about 'finding' the folder. No need to delete the folder at this point. If you are using LW 5 delete the gnutella.net file which is 'inside' the LW preferences folder. If using LW 4 then replace it as it described in the 'If LW will not Connect' link Birdy gave you. :) If you have those show all files & folders option checked, then you can probably search gnutella.net file instead of LW to make it easy. :)

I have checked to make sure that the hidden files are shown and I also told my computer to search all hidden files. But I will try again. Thanks

tried again

I tried again following the steps shown but could not find c:/documents and settings/Lotr/A...... All of the files for Docs & Settings are admin files.
