Default port locked / another application using it

Little bit green so bare with me please....

vista basic...avg free..windows def...3g ram.. 360g hd..cable...motorolla modem..netgear w/router wgr614...home connection..lime version 4.9.37.. java version 1.6.0_11...optus...test worked...yes brick wall..

Installed limewire and no connection...Asked around and was advised to manual port forward.. I did this and tripple checked things throughout the process making sure it was done correctly.. finished this process including avg/exceptions/limewire and still single bar?..So i did a port check, came up with error "port is locked, another application is using this port" Disconnected lime wire tried again same result. I have tried "start/run/cmd,,with various netstat combinations to find out what other application are using this port but nothing worked. Both port numbers are 50000(tcp)

just when you think you got, another problem...

any advise would be much appreciated..

When you forward a port on a router, the very first thing you must do is set up a static ip address. Did you do that first? If you did it after doing the port forward rule in the router, you'd need to go back & remove the port rule & do it again after setting up a static ip. Just checking to be sure. Instructions for Vista are: Vista Static ip instructions Also best to do a port forward for 'both' tcp & udp.

And in LW you need to do this: Manual port forward instructions & sample image using the port you forwarded.

Are you using avg or vista firewall? Best to only use one only. Turn the other off.

Why did you install LW 4.9 & not a later 4.x version? You may need to replace your gnutella.net file, see If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link)

Actually I'd have suggested LW 4.18 rather than 5 but if it works for you, that's great! LW 5 lacks many of the tools of LW 4.
