![]() Hello all. I have some issues with Limewire getting past "starting connection." and "corrupt installation." I know there are a zillion posts with this problem and I have tried all the fixes with moderate success. I'm sure it's a Java issue. My question is for someone who has Limewire 4.9.10 Pro. What version of Java are you running that is compatible with this LW? I think my issue started with a Java update and I forget what the original version was. Thanks for taking the time to read ![]() |

![]() You might be waiting a while to get a reply from a 4.9.10 user, so let me try & help in the meantime ![]() 4.9 versions are ancient - 2005 I think (funny, LW's changelog seems to have stopped at 4.15.3 in 2007 - maybe any version prior to that is in a black hole ![]() I have a 4.9.23 installer (not much older than your version) - I just fired it up & it wouldn't connect. But once I replaced the gnutella.net file then it's up & going fine using Java 1.6.0_14 (see image below). ![]() So try replacing the gnutella.net file as shown here (click on link): If LW 4 Will Not Connect & see if things improve ![]() If you want to update your Java, the current version's 1.6.0_15: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp Download the JRE offline installer. Remove all othe versions of Java currently installed, via Control Panel. Install the latest update & then restart your computer. If you're interested in using a later version of LW then there's a link here to a 4.16 version which is pretty good: Downgrading to LimeWire 4 from 5 & resuming incomplete downloads Last edited by birdy; August 7th, 2009 at 12:08 AM. ![]() I like version 4.10 and I have already paid for PRO. If I go to a newer version I don't get a PRO upgrade. I was so fed up with playing with this that I did a system recovery and reformatted my entire hard drive, and guess what... it still didn't work. I then tried installing the newest LW 5 and LW 4 worked after that. Weird. As far as Java goes the only two that seemed to work with LW4 was Java 4.1 and 4.2. When I tried the newer 5 and 6 LW would simply not open, telling me the installation was corrupted. It seems LW 5 installed Java 6.11 and it seems to work. I still don't understand but I'm not gonna play with it anymore. Thanks for the reply Birdy. |
