Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Internet Crashes when trying to connect to Limewire When I first moved into my current place limewire worked fine. Then all of a sudden, when I started limewire my internet would crash. It would occure about 30 seconds after I double clicked on LW and it tried connecting. I would have to then go reset my modem and wireless router, so frustrating. There are three of us that live here. Only one other person uses limewire and has the same issue with it crashing the internet when he tries. I've read through the forums and all the information is overwhelming and none of it seems to fit my problem. Anyone have any idea what the issue is and how to fix it? If you need more info just ask and I'll try to provide it if I know the answer. THANKS |

I'm new to the forums but not to LimeWire. I loved it so much better before. Here is my issue. I went to open LimeWire 5 to use it and it wouldn't work. I came here, uninstalled Java and then reinstalled it fresh. I then uninstalled Limewire 5 and reinstalled 5.3.6. It finally installed but it won't connect. I will squeeze the limes and then it just disappears. It says it cannot make permissions and yet my Sympatico Security Manager allows LIMEWIRE in all its areas, including FIREWALL. I've followed all the advice in FAQs and the typical questions that you request us to read. So without further headache, here is the information you request from us so you can help people like me...LIMEWIRE FOR DUMMIES!!!!! 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) If using Windows Vista, please tell us whether you have an Administrator user account. Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? I have Windows Firewall disabled and Sympatico Security enabled ALLOWING LimeWire to access the internet safely. 3. How much ram? 1000 MB 4. Hard Disk space available? I havae 32.5 GB of space left on my computer...plenty. It's a 100 GIG and I've never had a problem with Limewire tilll now. 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband..unlimited 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? (eg: Linksys WRT54Gv4) SIEMENS Speedstream 6520 7. (Go to LW's menu Help bar > About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. _ Click to see Sample image *It's very important that you tell us whether you're using LW 5* I am using Limewire 5.3.6. the newest version that JUST downloaded to my computer. 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Bell Sympatico Canada 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It worked. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I am the only person living here and there are no other computers so I don't share a connection. In any case, I never do any p2p sharing except through email. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. This is a NEW problem with the NEW Limewire. I'm used to Limewire for a long time. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image NO If you're using LW5, there's no firewall icon. In LW go tools > advanced tools...there you'll see whether you're behind a firewall or not. Click on thumbnail to enlarge the image. 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I don't have a router. 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Sympatico Security Manager with antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware, fraud protection, pop-up blocker and Active Shield. Each has an allowance for allowing the use of Limewire. 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). CANADA 17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? As I stated, I followed all instructions before coming here and registering. I uninstalled all Java and reinstalled. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled Limewire again. When that didn't work, I checked the FAQ's then the Stickies here as requested. The RAM is untouched at 1000MB. SOOOOOOOO frustrated that they had to go and change things! Sheri |

Are you (& the other person) sharing heaps of files? If so, try reducing the number of files that you're sharing. Have you or the other person tried reinstalling/updating LW or Java? Are you both trying to use LW at the same time? Can you use other p2p programs without this happening? Does your internet crash when using any other programs (not necessarily p2p)? If LW loads fully before the crash, do you have lots of files queued for download? Are you both connecting wirelessly to the router? Could you please give us your details (click on link)? System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!! |

Musicmaker1969, Had you been able to use other LW 5 versions without a problem in the past? Go through fixes 1 - 8 here (even though you've reinstalled Java before): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html Otherwise, try removing all LW rules from Sympatico Security Manager & add them again from scratch. |

What stage does LW get to before the crash - does it crash while the splash screen's still loading, while squeezing limes, while loading shared files etc etc? -The internet icon officially crashes after about 30 secs of the LW interface coming up and the 'loading' icon appearing in the bottom left hand corner. Though technically the internet usage stops before the icon disappears, probably right around the the LW interfact pops up. Are you (& the other person) sharing heaps of files? What happens if you connect using an Ethernet cable, rather than wirelessly? Has this started happening since updating LW to the latest version, or did it happen with earlier versions? Have you tried using an older version of LW, to see whether the problem's version related? See whether you have the same problem with the Beta version of LW: LimeWire 5.4.0 (Beta) - Lime Wire If you can stay connected via ethernet cable, you could see whether port forwarding (rather than using UPnP) makes any difference. You'll need to set up a static IP address for your computer first: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall Port forwarding instructions for your router are here: Port Forwarding Limewire on the Belkin F5D7230-4 To find LW's listening port in LW5, go tools > options > advanced > super really advanced > firewall. Choose a port in the range of 49152 - 65535. Remember to click 'ok' to save any changes to LW's options. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded withih router setup must all be the same number. |
