If anyone can help me, it'd be appreciated. I tried that link, and it doesn't say anything about Windows Vista. |
There's a link specific to Vista for deleting LW's preferences folder. Did you try that?
The link for updating Java works for Vista as well... you'll need to choose Vista as your platform & make sure to select the JRE offline installer.
The info about changing LW's options (listen on port, disabling DHT etc) is the same for Vista.

I am using XP. I have used the suggested test, and showed my test worked. I use the standard Windows firewall. There is no change if I inactivate the firewall. My provider is Suddenlink. There is one other computer connected by router. I use AVG and Spy Hunter anti v/spyware. I used Limewire last on Nov. 20. The problem began Nov. 21. Any ideas?
I followed the steps outlined in "DELETE gnutella.net FILE (LW 5.0 users only)" and did not locate any gnutella files, even after using Search. Whats up with that? |
You shouldn't need to delete the gnutella.net file - that info was for LW 5.0 users only & doesn't apply to versions later than 5.0 (eg 5.3.6).
I'm not sure what you mean about "it only brings up the Lime Man box"... do you mean the splash screen (where it shows 'scouring NYC for limes', 'squeezing limes' etc)??
If you're only seeing the splash screen before LW crashes then it could be a Java issue. See the link in post #2 for info about how to update Java.
Or is your LW is loading past the splash screen but crashing while loading shared files (ie when the 'loading' spinner is active) & while you see the connection bars at the bottom left of LW's interface?? How many files are you sharing? If you're sharing a large number of files then reduce that number & see whether it helps. Otherwise update Java as above.
Did you try deleting LW's preferences folder?
You should have a gnutella.net file - maybe your computer isn't set to show hidden files & folders? See the link in post 2 for more info about that. If you're absolutely sure that you're showing hidden files & folders, do you see the LimeWire folder (gnutella.net is within LimeWire)?
Anybody who needs further help should post their system details as per post #2.
