11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs?
Probably yes, with other people, its wireless in a dorm.
12. Is this your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user?
I have used LW for something like 5 yrs. so I would consider myself experienced.
13. How many red or grey or green bars do you see at bottom left of LW's screen?
The bars are all grey, next to the bars it says connecting…..
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?
Not sure
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc.)?
Microsoft Security Essentials
16. What country are you living in?
USA
17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc. etc.?
I haven’t used LW for over a month, I used to be in a house, now I’m in a dorm, I have the same ISP, Yesterday I went to use LW and it was having this problem of not connecting, so I updated, still the same problem. Then I searched all the forums and tried everything to fix it, still no luck. Here is the list of what I have tried:
CHECKED FIREWALL
DISCONNECT/RECONNECT LW
UPDATE/REINSTALL JAVA
UPDATE/UNINSTALL/REINSTALL LW
CHANGE LISTEN ON PORT
DELETE LIMEWIRE'S PREFERENCES FOLDER
DISABLE ULTRAPEER CAPABILITIES, DHT & TLS
If a "how to fix-it" was posted on this issue, I tried it.

What I suspect the issue is, is the dorm. Nowadays many if not most universities & their dorms block or shape p2p file sharing programs. What you can try is go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Advanced, Firewalls. Set to manual port forward. Change port number to one between 49152 - 65535 for both connecting & listening through. You may need to restart LW after this. If this does not work, not too many options left unless you try proxies which can be complex & time consuming to set up & change.

Alternatively, Phex is a less known gnutella program & might not be blocked. You could give it a try to see if it works connecting to those high port ranges. http://www.phex.org/wiki/index.php/Get_Phex

It is quite possible that the motel is blocking LW.
