Default Limewire 5.6.2(pirate edition) and java 1.7

Hello, I recently installed java 1.7 and now limewire won't start, says limewire needs java 6 or higher to run. Downgrading to java 1.6 just to run limewire doesn't sound good to me. Any help?

Features for Java 7 ie: It is not a finalised version yet. That generally means it is equivalent to a beta or alpha version. (build 1.7.0-b14) suggests a beta version.

On Windows 7, I downloaded Java 1.7 64 bit, right-clicked & chose run as Admin, then installed. LPE ran fine.

On Windows XP, a different story. Same as yours. I'd suggest downgrading back to Java 1.6 for now until Java is 'officially' released. I suspect the 32-bit version Java is lacking some full abilities at present. Perhaps certificates or such.

However, Phex seems to run fine under Java 1.7 on Windows XP.

downgrading to java 1.6 works, so I installed LPE in virtual machine running xp (since I already need VM for a project) so it works now, thanks.

Which Windows OS are you using? If you are using XP or earlier, you may need to downgrade to Java 1.6 (would need to uninstall Java 1.7 via the Add/Remove Programs control panel.) I had to do the same on my XP. For Windows 7, LW works fine with Java 1.7.

I'm not so sure the Java 1.7 available at present is the final official release, otherwise it would become the default Java download. I suspect the Java 1.7 presently available is a kind of beta version. It does not seem to have full 32 bit abilities re-added to it yet. 64 bit Java works fine and that is obviously what they were concentrating on. I read something at the Java site in reference to Java 1.7 32 bit but it was not highly informative, just suggestive that it may be lacking some abilities or contain some bugs.

If installing Java for Windows 7 or Vista, you should right-click the Java installer & choose Run as Administrator. This is necessary for LW for Windows 7 & beneficial for Vista.

I installed Limewire on my laptop in the spring, when I bought it (Windows 7) and it worked just fine. Now it's not connecting.

At first I thought it was because I was using Wifi at malls and McDonald's, but now I'm connected to someone's wifi in the house, still not connected.

Any suggestions?

More of a description of your set up might help. Sounds like you use a portable computer (laptop)?

Have you done any Java updates in the meantime since spring? Find the Java.exe file, right-click & choose/set to Run as Administrator. On Windows 7 this can be very important for LPE to function properly.

Then, make sure LPE is set to run as administrator. Right-click the LW shortcut & choose Run as Administrator.

If this does not help with the connection, then try deleting the LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...ndows-7-a.html. You might wish to make a copy of the downloads file (downloads.dat) before deleting the preferences folder. After this, you will need to do all the settings again.

Beyond the above suggestions, check http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

Let us know if any of these helped.

The Java.exe file, right-click it & choose Run as Admin. It's found here:
c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java

Perhaps easier, the other option is to re-install Java. Before installing you right-click the Java installer & choose Run as Admin. This of course is easiest if you download the Offline installer. Direct Java offline download link.

I tried using that link, since the first set of instructions in your last reply, I didn't understand.

It didn't work, I got a message saying it "timed out".

Where do I find this java scpript to right click on it? Control Panel?
