I suspect your router's firewall is what is probably causing the connection problems.

Would you have permission to login access the router?

Bell have often used Speedstream routers in the past but also a few other brands. By the looks the Speedstream routers maintain their name on the router. So it is my guess you are using a 2Wire router. Internet support for modems, connection and home network from Bell so you can verify if it looks the same.

The only difference I can see from the different models of 2Wire or even Speedstream is the login address for the router.

1. Set up a static ip address: Setting a Static IP Address in Windows 7 - PortForward.com

2. Follow the instructions here for the 2Wire router: Port Forwarding Limewire on the 2wire 2701HG - PortForward.com
The Bell user-guide for the 2Wire router suggests using http://192.168.2.1 as the login address.

ie: you can manually add an application to the list. Depending on whether you wish to do this for LW 4, 5 or FrostWire.
Add a rule for each of TCP and UDP.

After finishing, save settings. Usually also best to reboot routers for the changes to take effect.

3. For LW depends if you are using LW 4 or LW 5. For LW 5 instructions, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/tips-t...tml#post120010
For LW 4 or FrostWire (same approach as LW 4), use the instructions at portforword . com

FrostWire 5 is a torrent only program. It does not use the gnutella network. User opinions I have seen are they did not like it. But they were personal opinions only. If you wish a torrent only program, there are definitely much better ones out there such as uTorrent, Vuse and a few more that have been developing for many years and are fully acceptable even at private torrent sites. I am not aware of a 'private' torrent site that allows FrostWire 5.

The modem in here looks like 2Wire 2701.

The instructions above at portforword . com are not too difficult to follow.

LOTR:

I tried to follow step one in the instructions you gave me, but may have hit a slight hitch.

The instructions want information ipv4 and to ignore the 6. I only found information on 6. Do I still follow the instructions?

As far as I know, ipv6 is for the future but I do not think ipv6 ip addresses have even been allocated out to people yet.
I must admit, seems strange instructions for port forwarding. My router only asks for private and public ports and private (LAN) ip address.
I think ignore the Firewall summary page.

Click the Firewall Settings button. Then by the looks, you click the Advanced Settings tab. Then select your computer which should show in the drop down list. Then Click the Add a new user-defined application link.
You will make two entries, one for TCP and another for UDP.
So check option for TCP in first entry, then add a port number. Perhaps 6346 or 6348. This port number must be the same as the port you add in LimeWire's Advanced settings for port forward.
For Profile Name, the Application Name you can type in LimeWire. When you have added the Application Name and the port From and To numbers, then click the Add Definition button.
Do a second definition entry for UDP.

After doing the UDP addition, press the Back button. You will see LimeWire listed in the list of applications, select it and click the Add button which will move it to the Hosted Applications section. Then click Done button at bottom of screen.

Thanks, I'll have to get to doing that and see if it works. I'd like to be able to use Frostwire (or Limewire) and get some new CDs.

If you're talking about step 3 in your original post, I can't find "Port Listings".

For LW or FW, menu bar Tools, Options, Advanced, Listening Ports / Firewall Config.

The instructions I gave in my last post is for your router. You do not need to specify any ip address in either the router or LW/FW. Only the port you decide to use.

I'll have to try and figure this all out, because now I'm getting really lost and fustrated.
