 Stuck on Starting connection 1. OS version? Windows 7, administrator 2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall 3. How much ram? not sure 4. Hard Disk space available? 500 GB 5. Connection type? Modem 6. Modem type,Motorola SB5101, trying to connect from home 8. Limewire 4.8.1, Java 1.6 update 27 9. ISP is Shaw 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? no 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. No I've been using it for several years. 13. (a) Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface (only for LW 4 users)? No._ (b) How many red or grey or green bars do you see at bottom left of LW's screen? Only 1 green bar, the rest are red. Its stuck at Starting Connection 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I just know that its a cable modem. 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Avast Antivirus 16. What country are you living in? Canada 17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? Yes. Our computer's hard drive recently crashed. It was running Windows XP. Now we just got a new computer, running Windows 7 of course. I re-downloaded Limewire PRO 4.8.1, which was what I was using before. It ran perfectly on a turbo charged connection. Now its stuck on Starting Connection. I have tried everything on your list of things to do, I even tried multiple editions of Limewire 4. I've re-installed, disconnected, replaced gnutella, ect... Please help!  |

 No brick wall yet no connection. hmm sounds odd. Did you try the ConnectFix program? It's usually best to try that 2-3 times. Keep in mind for Windows 7, you should right-click both Java.exe & LW & run each as Administrator. How about trying the L.Pirate Edition & see if that connects ok. Another option is to try FrostWire 4 (not version 5), & see if any of those connect. I'd recommend deleting your LW preferences before installing LPE. Either of these programs will have a far greater chance of connecting than LW 4, especially any version prior to 4.14. |
