can not connect

I just installed limewire, but cannot connect. I try "file connect" and nothing happens. I tried the telnet test mentioned in FAQ and I get a "Gnutella OK" message back. I also tried to manually add some of the connections mentioned in some of the threads, but nothing happened at all.
HELP
