To stop freeloaders, define "Rarely"

I have a limit of minimum 50 files to share not to be a freeloader, an the option to allow freeloaders set to "rarely"

Now exactly what does that mean, "allow rarely", is it 1 out of 10? , 1/100 or all if there is download slots availiable?

I share roughly 2000 files and have 20 start /40 max uploads slot @unlimited bandwidth, yesterday i let Limewire run for quite some time and lots of ppl downloded off of me, but i only saw 3 File not found.... how does that match with the opinion that there are sooooo many lechers nowadays?

So how many freeloaders get through anyway?

Oh one more thing, when i started using limewire last spring i used to have so much upload pressure that my cpu/Hd(crappy computer indeed) got an heartattack... that never happens anymore, wonder why?

rarely means 1 out of 10. The freeloader options only applies for your incoming connections, though.

Don't set your max uploads to such a high value. If you set it too high, you all you'll do is cause many 0k uploaders and lot's of trouble for the other users.

I don't understand the thing with the file not found, - what's that got to do with leechers?

After starting LimeWire, it will index your files (and in the future even hash them).

alright then!

ok, i read in some other thread that "file not found" in the uploads window meant that a freeloader tried to download but was refused.. (unless you'd trashed the file ofcourse)

so what's a good max upload slot then? 20 worked fine limewire17

cheers

Set the start upload slots to 1 (LimeWire will automatically more uploaders, when there's enough bandwidth available). Don't set the Max value higher than 20. If you are on a slower broadband connection I'd even set it to 4 or 5.
