![]() Whenever I play music downloads there are pauses every second or two. I sounds like a finely skipping record. In other words, the songs don't play smoothly, there are very fine breaks in the tunes. I download only 4-star files. Is this problem due to: a) my connection - 56k dial-up? b) basic version of the player? Advice here is appreciated. I like Limewire but would be a lot happier if the songs were "smooth." |

![]() The player built into LimeWire isn't the best MP3 player around (I'm told). Try using another player. If the song still skips then there's not a lot you can do about it - it happens. Either the original rip was poor or it has picked up errors along the way. Mark |

![]() I have had the same problem, but have concluded that it is due to low memory on my machine, as it only happens when i am RUNNING either limewire, or aol, or something else that uses my comp. memory. When I shut bout everything else down, the player works fine. Another solution for me is to have the limewire download into real1 player. plays fine from there. sorry if i say something stupid here.... am a complete computer neophite. just my observations... |

![]() The problem is that programs written in Java are generally less efficient than programs writtin in other languages, such as C++. They compromise efficiency for portability. Java code only partially compiles, and the partially compiled code is then run by a runtime environment. What this means is there are many layers between the actual program and the operating system. The portability makes Java great for programs such as LimeWire, which are small and simple, but bad for larger, more complex programs. Probably the most complex part of LimeWire is the mp3 player, and since it is so inefficent, (NOT due to the LimeWire programmers fault) it skips. Use a decent non-java mp3 player such as XMMS or mpg123. |
