As a Mac user I remove the .mp3 extension from the file names. The problem is they no longer show up in the shared folder, so other users don't have access to them.

Can I change the Options (preferences) so that files without extensions will show up in the shared folder?

I don't think so. Most operating systems use file extensions to figure out the type of data it contains. So it isn't a good idea to remove the extensions anyway.
