Post Self-compiled LimeWire won't share files

I don't know what's going on here, but it's really very strange.

I decided to take a crack at the upload bug I've been having since 2.2 or so, so I registered and checked out the files for LimeWire. All well and good, but I can't even get it to run unmodified yet.

Well, it runs, but it doesn't share anything. People can see these files on the network and try to download them, but all uploads fail with "File Not Found", and the shared-files label tells me I'm sharing 0 files. The library shows the folder, but is empty. No matter which folder I choose or how many, it fails to find and share any files. (All the default extensions set. LimeWire 2.4.3 finds files fine under the exact same circumstances.)

I'm running this on Win98 SE.

Default File Not Found problem

I'm having almost the same problem.

I had 2.4.3 pro installed and uploads were going fine, today I removed that and installed 2.4.4 pro and now my files still show in the LIBRARY but when someone tried to download it I get the "File Not Found". I've tried refreshing my library and removing then readding it. Still same problem.

The cvs code is at the moment not suitable for every day use. Uploads are completely broken.

Well, I knew uploads were broken anyway; hence why I wanted to look at the code.

I couldn't figure out for the life of me what was wrong, though. The FileManager code looks perfectly sound, so it should be seeing files; and apparently it's telling the network they're there. But the library doesn't work (with shared files; incomplete files still show), and uploads don't work.

Status change on this problem: The library now slowly fills to find and share files, but all upload attempts still abort with "File Not Found". Looks like a marginal improvement.

(I also discovered, the hard way, that when WinCVS says you should download its stable version, don't download the newest beta. It's amazing just how badly a simple login or logout could make Windows crash. I've got to wonder how badly those idiots could screw up the WinCVS code that logging into a server makes Windows' guts fall out. At least the stable version apparently is stable.)

I'm curious what the people working on the Limewire code have to say about this File Not Found thing, but there doesn't seem to be a separate discussion area (that I've seen). It seems to me that to fix the upload problem, one must be able to find the files to upload in the first place. Or was that somehow related to the upload problem?

First, I would recommend signing up for both the dev@core.limewire.org and the dev@gui.limewire.org mailing lists. There was an issue with File Not Found being displayed on uploads with the current code on the main line, but I fixed at least the issue that I saw with it last week. There may still be a lingering problem though. I merged in a whole lot of code into the main line from the branch I was working on, and undoubtedly introduced some bugs. We have done quite thorough testing, but we have already fixed several issues that slipped through simply due to the magnitude of the change. You can sign up for the mailing lists at www.limewire.org.

Thanks.
