Unhappy very few downloads connect

I love the interface. But like numerous others here, I'm having troubles downloading files. (I'm using a G3 Powerbook running Mac OS 8.6, Limewire Pro 2.4, connected via DSL at 384/128 -- though actual tests using sfo.speakeasy.com say my download speed is over a megabit per second).

Searches come back quickly. On the connections tab, I usually get three hosts right off. But 99 percent of the files I try to download fail to even establish a connection, and those few that do usually come in at a crawl, even though most are posted as having broadband connections.

A broadband connection gets pretty narrow when it is shared with a hundred other people. The chances of you being the only person downloading from someone with a broadband connection are fairly remote - so you only get a small slice of their upload bandwidth and hence it comes in at a crawl - nothing wrong here.

Morpheus has just released a new version - I think this may be having an adverse affect on the network as a whole (although it is undoubtedly an improvement for morpheus users).

So, you're saying there's nothing wrong with my Limewire configuration or anything and there's nothing to do about it--Limewire and the Gnutella net are just over-busy and I should accept that 1 out of 50 requested files actually come in? That woud mean accepting that Limewire and the Gnutella are fairly worthless. Is that what you mean for me to accept?

Also keep in mind that many college students are no longer on campus sharing files over fast symmetric connections. Home broadband typically is not symmetric, that is upload speed is many times less than download speed. If you're one of many trying to get a file from one of them, the already low upload speed is divided into very small pieces. Downloading from a true T1 line or a SDSL (symmetric) connection would give you better rates.

well, umm-kay...I read over the initial complaint, which I share, and all of the responses-YET I DO NOT SEE A SOLUTION. You guys want people to spend their money on a program that cannot even download but 1 out of 50 downloads requested? Then all the response anyone gets is just a load of pol-a-tikin' bull from some computer freak who can quickly describe the technicalities of the problem, yet CANNOT SEEM TO FIX ****. Man, I am so tired of living in 2002 where everything is on these MODEL-T computers and everybody thinks that we're all so advanced. Bullshit. OH and while I'm letting loose of how I really feel: **** MACINTOSH, they are nothing but a ridiculous dream that has turned into my nightmare.

So, what I'm hearing is a bunch of complaints, but no real solutions! Sounds like those programmers that spent a bunch of years developing Limewire, wound up with a LEMON! I don't see any real viable solutions to any of the problems as I scan through this gripe board. I'm beginning to wonder if I should try another program???

Cool things improve with osx and a G4 800

Can't say why exactly, but having just purchased Apple's latest notebook, the G4 800 running OS X and having installed the Limewire for OS X, I'm actually getting much better results. Can't say why exactly, but I'm very happy with what I'm getting now. Thanks Limewire. Hope you can fix the problems with the older versions for all the rest of the network.

Default Has nothing to do with computer

I'm doing just fine with my little home grown 300 mhz PC. Downloaded tons over the weekend through my SBC DSL connection!

Im running a 1.2 ghz processor, and my internet connection is fine. I am also having the same problems. At first i thought that it was a bug designed so you would have to by the software, but after buying the software i relized that that was not the case. Im sorry but my 10 bucks could have been used to by a case of beer and a box of condoms

With regard to your download problems, try downloading from four star results with fast connections printed in green. This may help you find better sources for download.
