Unhappy

I have a 1.2ghz athlon with sbc dsl line and am having the same download problem thats stated above. It seems that no one has a problem d/l'ing from me because my files are being picked clean, but even though I only choose 4 star files from broadband users printed in green, I still get the "requery sent..." message for days on end before they even start to d/l. And even then its not a continuous d/l; it may take a week to get a whole file, and I paid for the pro version! If this is the best there is, then i'm going to miss Audiogalaxy more than I thought.

I don't think the problem is Limewire - I am using Limewire, Shareaza and Bearshare and experience similar results with all - I have used WinMX and Moprheus in the past and again similar results. I think it is the nature of the beast - you are at the mercy of the 'other guys connection speed and how busy their system is. Limewire's requery is simply another way to try and get a file that is not immediately available.

Hi,

In Audiogalaxy, you would request a file through a website, and audiogalaxy would arrange to have it sent to you. This is not how Gnutella functions. If you request a file through LimeWire, you are requesting it directly from another computer. If that computer is unavailable for some reason, it may be impossible to complete the download. Since only about a quarter of files on the network are currently hashed, it can be difficult to find a replacement on a requery. If a download request fails, you'll probably need to select another download source, or perhaps even repeat the search.
In many ways this difference can be an advantage. If you don't like your download speed, you can try downloading from a faster computer since you have better control over file transfers.

Good luck!

Avi

Another program you might want to try is edonkey2000 It's a stupid name for a program, but I seem to get better results, atleast in finding and downloading TV show episodes. The most annoying thing is that you can have only part of a file and someone can download that part from you, so you'll be sharing a file that you can't even see yet because you don't have all of it. It still takes a long time to get files sometimes, but the more networks you try, perhaps the better your chances of getting the things you want.

Angry morpheus

I believe that the core of the first message in this thread is that limewire is not downloading properly. No one has explained to this person that the current most likely suspect is morpheus in his connections tab. By constantly removing all conections that are not limewire, your number of hosts will go up as well as shared files. This will increase your chances of getting the file you want. Also, by manually entering 6 on the number of connections window at the bottom, you will further increase your connections. Remember to open your stats window by clicking the tools tab so that you can keep track of this. You must constantly remove morpheus and other non-limewire ultrapeers because they are a cancer in the system. Morpheus and gnucles take, but do not give. Worse, the kill your hosts so that you can find nothing. I have posted several questions over the past week asking the limewire developers "where is the fix" for this problem with no response. It is apparent that they either dont know how to fix it or worse, know how and choose not to. I think we shold be told the truth.

Right. Thanks for the reply. You are the first person to resopnd to my many postings. I am afraid that the limewire people have some economic interest in not providing us with a filter or some other way to block the morpheus connections. Why , for example, is there a preference choice for selecting how many shared files before someone is concidered a freeloader, but no way to block an ultrapeer with all of these problems?
There is a reason, we just havent figured it out yet. Somthing in someones business plan needs these morphesus leeches down the road....
Cant trust the large corps ("worldcon", "endrun")cant trust the government, cant trust the church and now..........

When I try to change the # of connections it tells me that it can't do that. It was on 4, I hit 6, it said that that would clog the system and then set it to 3. And now I can't set it to anything higher than 3.

The number of connections you can establish depends on the your connection speed.

Of course not! LimeWire just prevents computers from making an unreasonable number of connection requests for their connection speed. For example a modem user cannot make more than four connections. And why should he? It would clog the network. The reason that you are getting so many morpheus connections in your tab is that there are many more Morphues clients on the network than anything else right now. LimeWire is working on techniques to improve connection performance.

Default limewire virus?

I'm glad I decided to come here, the info has been very helpful. I also have found it almost impossible to download anything lately. My PC friends on
Audio Galaxy say all is fine on their end. I also have noticed one IP address downloading numerous copies of the same song and have been monitoring this and deleting the extra copies.

I took the advice here and deleted all foreign connections - suddenly things worked as they used to. However since this trouble has started, I have found that I lose the face of my Limewire, where everything goes blank and I have to keep clicking around...sometimes things will appear but they disappear again. I have to quit out and reopen application. I suspect this happens when I click on the Monitor section, but can't say for sure. Has anyone else experienced this?

thanks,

F
