download speed problem Why are my upload speeds faster than my download speeds? I read the FAQ. I'm a t-3 connecting to other t-3s, why are my download speeds only around 5 or 6 kb/s (if at all that good)? Even if someone limits their upload speed to 25% it still doesn't mesh. I want to go faster. I'm fast, the people I connect with are fast.........aghhhh! This seems to happen with grateful dead tunes. Ummmm. |
You are on a T-3 with (i assume) uncapped upload and download speeds. Many users on Gnutella have cable modems. Most cable modem providers allow download speeds much higher than thier upload speeds. If you (T-3) request a file from a cable user, your download speed is limited by the users upload speed. If you upload a file to a cable user, your upload speed is limited by thier download speed which is much higher than the same cable users upload speed. This is why your uploads are faster than your downloads. |
I forgot to add this to the above message, Most people on Limewire lie about their connection speed to allow them more connections under the connections tab. If you are getting about 4-6kbps you are probably connected to a dial-up user or a bogged down cable user. |
A node connected via T3 might have lots of uploads (like 10 - 20) so each single upload is quite slow. Of course there are some people who think increasing their connection speed setting to T3 and opening many more connections (while disabling ultrapeer capabilities) could improve their search results. |
