limewire will play anything, u just have to download a couple of codecs from 3ivx.com, there u can read all about how divx doctor will help u play any movie files u want. u'll have to convert them after download though, which is what divx doctor does.

WMP9 busts share/save settting

Sorry for cross-post, but I think some of the seeming illiterates may be runnning into a real problem that I've been having since downloading windows media player 9. Suddenly, all sub-folders of Program Files (thus the default shared/library directory) are set to read-only, so LimeWire won't let you save files to the default shared directory. I didn't touch limewire, and suddenly it's saving to user-specific "my files" directories, but still sharing from the now read-only shared dir.

Worse, the read-only permission setting can't seem to be unset (I try, and it just reverts to read-only). I could set LimeWire to use a desktop folder for sharing/saving, but that seems like a hack (and I don't really want to move gigs of files either... fragmentation much?).

Long story short, it's a very real possibility that people are simply unable to set their save and shared directories to be the same location due to a windows media player-caused permissions problem (I should say "apparently WMP9-caused," but I've read enough posts about it here and elsewhere that I'm pretty sure this is not a coincidence).

I'm terrified of uninstalling WMP9, since last time I uninstalled such an embedded MS product, I got the blue screen of death.

HELP!!!

"The default for Saving & Sharing your files is C:\Program Files\Limewire\Shared" said Kath.

Just a FYI, I downloaded 2.9.8. PRO, after removing 2.8.6, and without changing a setting, the Shared was missing, I would download songs and they would disappear. In the LimeWire Tools, Options, it showed Saving as C:\Document and Settings\defalt\Shared and in the Sharing window, it was blank--nothing in the box. I added that location, and now it does work.

Cheers,

Ned

PS Is it true that LimeWire has hired Baghdad Bob as their spokesperson? "All of LimeWire is working, there are no problems here, in fact I am currently downloading seven thousand songs, at twenty-four hundred Kb/s. The record companies are hysterical, they are lost in the board rooms, and we are causing their stomach ulcers to roast...."

I am having a problem with some music downloads. Some of them are mp3 files and others look like a sheet of paper and won't play. Love limewire regardless.

downloaded files cannot be opened

I am running limewire on an imac using os9, and recently had to reinstall limewire. Anyway, I'm having problems downloading as of late. After I have already downloaded the files, when I try to open them like 8 out of 10 of them cannot be opened, and I am stumped b/c they are just mp3 files??
I use quicktime usually to open them and then transfer them to itunes, but qt has not been able to open many of them lately and it is very frustrating.
