Default files download as limewire docs

about 50% of the stuff I download downloads as a limewire document (mac g4). There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this (like file length or extension) and it is really annoying when you wait for over an hour to download stuff and over half of it isn't usable even though its taking up a chunk of your hard drive and it looks like a valid file. blah.

Hey,

That does sound really annoying. Can't you change the file association to the appropriate application?

no, the mysterious thing is that half of the stuffit docs come through as stuffit docs and unstuff perfectly. The other half come through as limewire docs with a stuffit .sit extension but open limewire when clicked. Opening stuffit and then attempting to unstuff from within yields an error message with the file being corrupt or unusable. I just can't believe that 50% of the stuffit files online are corrupt....

Default files download as limewire docs

I'm having the same trouble. I can download audio files, no problem, but when I try to download programs I wait 2...3...even 4 hours and once they are downloaded, I can't find them. When I do a search on my computer, it finds the files (that I can't view in my shared folder) and when I double-click to open them/unzip them it takes me back to LimeWire. Very annoying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Drag the LW doc to the icon of StuffIt Expander. Keep an alias on your desktop for convenience. Go to your File Exchange control panel and make sure that .sit is there. If not add it.

Sometimes the file is not really corrupt, but Expander gives you an error message and unpacks the doc anyway. Other times, it really is corrupt. There is a lot of garbage out there. Check the file sizes in the search window and you will see quite a variety for identical programs.
