i have dialup and until the last few days i have sustained reasonable speeds when downloading. ex 5 or 6 kb's/sec or a combination of dl's to equal this speed. something has happened and now i am getting less than 1 kb/sec for the file(s) i am dl'ing. this is happening while my connection icon at bottom right (windows Me) is telling me that i am receiving at a rate of 5 kb's/sec or around that amount. how can limewire dl so slow when my computer is receiving all this extra bandwidth? i don't have any programs running and no uploads going.

It is likely just a result of general conditions not associated with your PC or ISP. The most common I encounter is the case where you are downloading files from a/many users who do not have high available bandwidth... such as yourself, a dial-up, where they are sharing several files and what bandwidth they do have is divided up among several users. I am using ADSL and there are times that I too see downloads in the same range as you are seeing... I suspect it is a situation we will just have to live with.
