Downloads in INCOMPLETE folder but NOT downloading when you open program.

I thought about upgrading and purchasing the program, but not sure that will happen unless the problem I have is fixed. This has happened twice so far. I have some songs that will be in the downloads section under the search tab downloading. I will close the program and shut off my computer. When I turn my computer on later and start the program, all the songs waiting in the downloads section under the search tab will be gone. The section will be totally empty. When you go to the incomplete folder, they are still there, but they are not downloading under that section and they are not completed. What the heck is going on. I lost a big list the first time this happened and now the second time I have lost a big list again. This is driving me crazy and not allowing me to spend the money on the program. Any help you can give would be helpful. My e-mail is [email]/email]

Thanks in advance!

incomplete downloads from old version

I have upgraded to the new version and I have a long list of incompletes from the old version that doesn't seem to be 'registered' for download. Know any fix??

Unregistered August 20th, 2002 01:29 AM

I had this problem too. I am using the lastest free version and I have found that if you restart your computer or shutdown, when Limewire is reopened the downloads will appear again and continue from the point left off. I always use this method now, has worked every time!

I have this problem too, I was working on a particularly big file, it was resuming when I restarted - but then yesterday disappeared from the downloading list - a lot of effort wasted - I have the crapiest dial up connection so I can't sustain long downloads - I'd pay for it if I could depend on resuming - but I can't - plus it's just an order inside the beast - there must be some simple hack to put something back in the download area
Anyone know it?
This I s the #1 problem

Unable to complete downloads

This is the main reason that I will not upgrade to pro.

(...and don't any of you "senior members" try telling me that, "You can try to find the same file and start downloading it again".)

That's fine when you are trying to download one specific file, but when I'm on this I'm usually downloading a large number of small (but quite specific) files for sampling purposes. When (not if) Limewire crashes the "smart download" never resumes and I am left with an "incomplete" folder full of useless garbage because this programme cannot drag-n-drop and/or recognize it's own partially downloaded files. In most cases this means searching for and trying to reacquire not one but dozens of files (and since the search tabs dissapear when the download tanks, that's usually even more difficult). I'm begining to think that this technology must've peaked with Hotline.

So if I have this straight...
If you want a scratchy mp3 of "mad dogs and englishman" use Limewire. If you want a reliable p2p file transfer solution, look elsewhere 'cause this lime sucks lemons.

Bummer. I was hoping for something different.

incomplete files wont delete automatically

I opted for 0 days to keep incomplete files. Does anyone know why that feature does not work? I have too many incomplete files that are useless. How do you get the feature to delete automatically?

No resume from last incomplete download

I have the same issue, you can partially download a file and then exit Limewire and when you turn it back on, it will never resume from the last byte downloaded but instead it will download from the beginning. The incomplete parts exist in the incomplete directory.

This is the registered Limewire Pro by the way. I was expecting that technical support should be directly via email to Limewire staff, but instead it looks like it's via this forum. What gives?

Lime wire crashed and all search files gone

After the crash no entries in search, but they are in "incomplete"
Anyone know how to get them in the search bit again (aound 300 filesapprox)

Thanks

Resuming downloads after shutdown

I shut down and now I have several (80-ish) incomplete files that are sitting in the Incomplete file. i can only find these when I explore. They are not in the Library Incmoplete. These files are not continuing to download when I start Limewire. My O/S is XP, the version is 2.6.3. This is very irritating. Why is it that Kazaa and Morpheus don't have a problem doing it but Limewire turns out to be a huge disapointment! Is this forum going to help anyone or is it just a bunch of ppl sitting around bitching?

Tony:

If you have lost the download.dat file from the incomplete folder then there is not much you can do. This file contains the information on which parts of which files have been downloaded.

The latest version of LimeWire (2.6.3) is quite good at not losing the download.dat file even during a crash - but it happens from time to time.

I suggest you delete the contents of the incomplete folder and start again.

Mark

I downloaded version 2.6.3 and I'm having the same problem. I am one of the idiots that registered the software so I have the pro version.

What's going on? I have a file like 96% completed, and when I restart the LimeWire, I start all over at zero percent.

Come on. I use a cable modem, I can just imagine how the 56K and less users feel.

I am also having this problem in 2.6.3 pro. Downloaded a 700 MB to 98% and then the lovely "Requery" messages appeared. Tried resuming later on and it had gone back to 0% ...

It's very irritating ... particularly in combination with large file downloads and an ISP that restricts downloads to 3 GB's per month!!

Alternatives

I was a Gnucleus user previously. Got sick and tired of its constant crashes. I used to use Limewire occasionally, if I wanted to leave it running overnight or something, because it didn't crash as often as Gnucleus. Eventually registered for Limewire Pro, and lo'n'behold just as I do that Gnucleus 1.8.4 comes out and it's got to be the most stable release of Gnucleus I have ever experienced. I can keep it running for days on end, the only reason to stop it is when I have to reboot my machine for some reason.

It's as stable as Limewire is. Plus it doesn't use as much CPU power as Limewire does, so it scales better. It doesn't suffer from the resume downloads from zero bug of Limewire. And best of all, it's free, GNU source-code software.

All in all the lime is a sucker, what use is a proggy that will not resume from the stage before it was stopped,i will not pay for the "pro" version until it starts behaving properly.

lost huge file when lime crashed

I have had the same problem. Limewire crashed, and when I restarted the computer, a huge file I had downloaded 60% of just disappeared from the downloads list. The file is still sitting in my incompletes folder, and I tried redownloading the same file, with no success. I am back to 0%.

I wish Limewire developers would address huge bugs like this, or at least offer a good workaround, before focusing on adding new things to the program.

An answer from a developer on this issue would be nice!

By the way, I am a PRO user as well, so I am paying for these bugs!

Solution to resumen "half-downloaded files"

Hi everybody,
Most of you have the same problem that I had before. Now I've found the solution, for I'm using LimeWire daily since 2 years ago, so I've learnt some things. Now I have LimeWire 2.6.3, and sometimes it crashes too, but if you make a copy of the "downloads.dat" file from time to time (I mean, every 5 or 10 minutes) and you places it in another folder of your pc, though LimeWire crashes, you'll be able to substitute the "downloads.dat" folder, and then it will start to be downloaded the same files that you were before (downloads.dat contains the downloading list of files). In relation to the "same point of the downloading file", it doesn't depend on Limewire, but on the same ip which keeps the same file. Try to look for it. Thus I've finish every download. It works! Good luck everybody!

Now for you youngters out there that would like to led someone by the hand , could you explain "How To " carry out the suggesion in the posting on 10-11-02 where-in "unregistered guest " suggested copying the <downloads.dat> file every so often. I have made several different attempts, and , have not met with success . . .I am [email]/email]
if you care to answer directly (off forum) . . .Thanks JIM
