What kind of files are you downloading? When you say corrupted what is the symptom? There are some bogus files out there that appear normal until you download them and try to play them... often they are files from current artists and current releases... part of what appears the record industy's efforts to curtail P2P.

Unhappy same problem...

I have exactly the same problem, I thought i was getting the registered version but I think this problem is here for everybody, any way to know IN ADVANCE if a file is not going to be right (ie file corrupted?)
Regards
e.

i generally just hit "okay" , or whatever keeps the corrupted file. i haven't found a single problem with any of the so-called corrupted files.

There are any number of reasons for a corrupted file.

A file may be corrupted during transmission - while there is some error checking in place, it isn't too difficult for some corruption to occur here and there.

A file may be altered by someone - they may keep the same name, but modify the file in some way. For example, someone may fix an unplayable AVI by rebuilding the index. If you then download the file from this person and someone else, the files won't quite match (and hence be reported as corrupted).

For MP3s, AVIs, MPGs and other media files, a few bits or bytes of corruption will result in little more than a glitch in the playback. Not a major problem.

For ZIP, RAR, SIT, EXE, DLL and similar files, corruption is a real problem. You might as well junk the files as soon as corruption is reported.

There is no way to know ahead of time if a file is corrupted.

Default corrupted files

I have also been frequently experiencing corrupted file messages in 2.5.5. Even though I choose to continue the download, the mp3 file disappears. I am using an Apple with OSX, version 10.1.5.

There's no real way to tell in advance if you are going to take a hit during the downloading, or 2 mismatched files are being merged, but you can check to see if others have had problems with that particular file.

Try a Bitzi web lookup first. And contribute to the effort - it's open source. Download the bitcollider software and and report on the files you download, good or bad. And no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way, I just happen to think it's a useful system.

Angry same problem

I am having the same exact problem that everyone else is having. Except all of the downloads when complete are either corrupted, a Limewire document, or Real Player media. And when its real player, the Real player can't run the file. SO ANY FILE I DOWNLOAD I CAN'T PLAY, NO MATTER WHAT! I am running off of Mac OS 9.2. Personally, I think its a bug in this 2.5 version because its never happened before. Can somebody please help me? Thanks!
