Question Changing Requery Parameters?

I'm aware of the reasons behind why LimeWire "requery"s and am fine with the principal, but here's my question:

Is it possible to change the parameters? More importantly, can I make the time between requeries shorter? Right now its requering every 5 minutes (Counts down from 300) and I think I, and most of us, would have a lot more success if we could shorten that timespan. I have even 'forced' a continuation of a requeried file by searching manually for it before the 300 sec came up and once I found a new posting of that file, it came out of "Requery" and re-started the Download. It'd be great to let this go unattended with a 1 minute Requery (or shorter!).

If this is possible and I'm not seeing it, please let me know.

TIA,
Trevor

LimeWire lies. It does send requery searches - but only once every 45 minutes - and then only for one file.

The five minute countdown was put in place when people complained that the searches were way to infrequent.

The reason for the low number of searches is to reduce network traffic. If searches were made frequent the extra traffic on the network would prevent anyone from transferring files.

Doing a manual search for a file and having it re-start a download is Working As Designed.

I have a similar concern about the requery time sequence. In the brief time I have tried using this program it seems that the odds of successfully establishing a connection, much less obtaining a download of sufficient speed to complete the download are very slim indeed. It also seems that the connection type (cable/modem/whatever) notations are not realistic. I tried Napster briefly, simply to see how it worked, and it had a much higher success rate. Limewire is one of the few Mac compatible programs I have encountered. Are there any that perform better?

Default Requry/Connection Speed

Recently, I have witnessed the 'requery' actually work! No BS! I was completely astounded!! The god damn thing actually does work,.... sometimes.

I ran a search, requested a download which returned 'requery'; I let it go 'requery' while requesting other downloads; I then got distracted (several mins.) and when I returned, there it was, downloading! I couldn't believe it.

Personally, I view 'requery' as the kiss of death to an upload request, and will 'repeat search' manually.

I view posted connection speed as more of a approximation of download proformance. I'm connected by Cable/DSL and have never see an upload speed greater than 7Kb/s, although I have set my upload to 100%. The fastest I have downloaded was 30~35 Kb/s. Is this reasonable?

Recently I took my laptop to school (university) and connected to the network there, and established download speeds of 300Kb/s. Curiously, the fastest upload (of several) was 60Kb/s. It is obvious that the limiting factor is the slower connection, but am I missing something. My upload bandwidth percent is set to 100%...?

Angry Re: +Requerys-No results!?!

OK. I've paid 2 times for Limewire Pro..contacted ZBell & her instructions don't work...
so, until my computer-savy bro can help me, I'm still stuck using this free version of
Limewire...& I'd like to ask for anyone's help, cos, I'm so darn frustrated...for weeks,
I've tried every night to download & have been quite liberal with my upload speed & slots
until tonight-it seems all I get are 'Requerys' & hardly any downloads....So, with plenty
of folk downloading from my 270 files, every night, I've barely gotten what I want....
not to mention paying 2 times for Pro & not being able to work it...so,
I'm losing faith....it takes way too long to get anything-& mostly are just
'requerys'............(yawn).....................i f anyone can help, I'd be very happy
Ta....I still love Limewire, tho.....but, it's kinda weird not ever getting anything-when
others are doing just fine.

Lightbulb Successful Downloads

I assume that when you say you payed for the pro version and it didn't work -- you mean you couln't download anything. If this is the case then it is not a problem with limewire but the nature of the gnutella network itself.

With the content on the network changes rather quickly it is not impossible to see hits for your search but the files not be available. There are a few things you could try to overcome this situation.

a) try to limit your downloads to 4 star hosts
b) do multiple searches for the same content.
c) kill any downloads that do not immediately start to transfer.
d) make a note of machines that return results and aburptly disconnect you in the middle of your transfer.

Try to avoid downloading from hosts that constantly return results but disconnect you when you try to download from them.

hope this helps.

Unhappy thanx.1download.to.thousands.of.requerys

Thankx 4 your advice.
Today, I was able 2 download 1 tune....while others have been uploading from me plenty!
Yes, I've paid twice for Pro, but cause I'm not computer-savy, I don't know how to
make it work...so, I'm waitin 4 me bro 2 come round & have a look@ me problem.
So, I keep trying to enjoy what Limewire I can still use, but, after 3 weeks of trying to
download files that appear to be available when searched, all I get is 'requery'-which
we all know to be impossible to download ever & only a miracle, if it ever does work.
What I don't understand is WHY do files 'appear to be available' & like today-after I
finally got to download 1, the ones right next to them, in same category, just say
'requery'......believe me, I've left me computer on all day/night hoping that some miracle
will occur & would somehow appear downloaded.....meanwhile, plenty of others keep
getting the pleasure of uploading my files...while I keep getting requerys, no matter how
long or hard I try....endless hours....frustrating......but, I still love Limewire & perhaps
when me bro can come by, he can help rectify this situation. zbell's emailed me twice, but
still doesn't work......jeez......wished it was easier & simpler.....cos, I'm just a grl.

cheers
all you Limewirers.............mstill tryin 2 catch your wave
Ta,

zg
