files wont play I'm running Limewire on Mac OS 8.6. Most of the songs that complete the downloading process dont play. I highlight them and hit launch and nothing happens. I've noticed that in the folder that keeps the completed downloads that the files that play have a Quicktime icon above it. The ones that don't work have a simple document icon above them. The downloads are MP3's so i know thats not the problem. Please help. Thank you. |
i have mac os 9.1...i have the same problem with it not playing., i don't know why it's like that...it ****** me off. |
unidentified file format downloads on Mac I have the same problem... most of the time, anything I download (I'm also running 8.6) arrives as a generic document, not tagged as being mp3 or other playable format. VERY FRUSTRATING--anybody have an answer to this? It seems to have just started about two months ago; prior to that I had no problems. |
I've recently had the same problem. Here's the remedy I discovered. It appears that the File Exchange settings are incorrect for iTunes. I believe your most recent installation of iTunes or QuickTime was the culprit, but I haven't verified this. Open your File Exchange control panel. Go to the three mp3 file extension settings. Here's the settings you'll need to change: - Open each mp3 setting by selecting Change... - for Name = MP3 Audio, MIME Type = audio/mpeg; set the Application to iTunes and File Type to MP3 - for Name = MP3 Audio, MIME Type = audio/x-mpeg; set the Application to iTunes and File Type to MP3 - for Name = MPEG-1 Layer 3, MIME Type = ; set the Application to iTunes and File Type to MPEG This should fix the problem. For the files you've already downloaded that won't load or play in iTunes, download Tech Tool Lite from [url]/url] Open the Tech Tool Lite Navigator page and launch the File Lab tool. For each file that isn't working, change the APP to iTunes (you may have to add it to the APP list) and change the TYPE to MPG3. This will fix the files for you so you don't have to download them again. Let me know if this works. If so, share the news. |
