Post Solution to your problem

If you are using a new version of limewire i.e. 4.x then there is no option to enter an IP address.

Before we go any further please specify what you are trying to accomplish that way I can tailor a response that specifically helps you to meet your goal.

hi lee

i have the same problems downloading files about 700mb,

i have a dsl/cable, i have a pentuim 4, with windows xp (not updated with the new upgrade add on). the connection comes and goes, i have tried the quality settings and the same results occur, the speeds are like 2-5 kps like 40% of the time, 60% is anywhere between connecting, waiting in line, in que, etc. should i plug my connection into my computer modem rather than the router, will that help my connection speeds?

i'm really ultra new at this, so any help would be awesome, and i'd welcome anyones imput. thanks lee

Post Interdiction

Your setup is fine, However, here are a few things to consider.

#1 If the host you are downloading from is connected via 56Kbps then there's nothing you can do (please read previous posts.)

#2 If the content you are downloading happens to be copyrighted material. Keep in mind that there are companies who make these files available on the network but use hacked clients that make getting files a) impossible or b) almost impossible.

#3 Supply and demand. If the above is not true don't forget that although file sharing is about sharing there are still more people looking to get content and not enough people distributing it.

Hope this helps.

Default not uploading?

Hello, have read the multitude of posts and most of it doesnt make any sense. I can download without problems and have specified folders to share. Seems to be a lot of hits but no uploads. system is xp, with NAV 2005 installed. I really have no idea what changes i am supposed to make to NAV to enable others to upload. If you can advise, i'm sure others would enjoy some of the files I have to share. Kind Regards, jacqui.

Post Upload testing

You're settings are probably fine. I can however, help you to determine if you have the ability to upload files to the network.
Basically, I need you to create a text file called upload-testing.txt
the file should contain the following characters:

44000001234556p2i4u5

post by to this thread after you have done this and are sharing this file.

Please test my upload capability. I have been experiencing problems uploading. In fact, no one can download from me.

the txt file is available for you.

Thanks,
Tom

I found your machine - In fact I was able to browse it you have 3100+ files. However, The test file I asked you to create is 0 bytes which means you did not enter the string I specified for it to contain. When ever I try to download a file from your computer I get one of two messages

#1 Waiting host Busy --Are there people uploading from your machine ? What is your configuration? /tools/options/uploads/slots?

What version of limewire are you using?

Do you have a firewall?

or #2 Need more sources

The file is not empty, I posted just as you requested. I am experiencing the problem with Limewire 4.07,4.08, and the new beta.

It also does the same on another computer connected to a seperate cable internet access, modem, router, etc.. but same ISP. It has a dynamic IP while my main system (this one) has its own static IP and commercial cable connected to it.

My website visitors are able to download from my website (http downloads) and my ftp. It may be that the ISP is blocking gnutella traffic, who knows, will call them tomorrow.
