Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

Hi deafguy Yes you probably will need to forward a port for your D-Link. Although the new version of LW has UPnP which, if your device uses that technology will overcome the issue. However, I use a D-Link & continue to manually forward a port with good results. As you're aware with a lot of net games & also video conferencing, etc. you need to open ports. For LW you need to open Port 6346 Without knowing your model the best I can do is direct you to http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm & D-Link is listed at the top of the page. Also see this: Force IP instructions & sample image Remember you can only forward port 6346 for one computer so any others that use LW would need to have a separate port no. port forwarded (eg: 6348/6342) Some other hints (except for this thread): A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising Uplds & downlds & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities. eg: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...028#post116028 |

I use DWL-520 D-Link wireless PCI. So please tell me what to do step by step to add IP and Port and what to do in opitions in Limewire. And what about adding IP in D-Link website for IP?? Or just add port only?? This is what it look like when I need to do Port Forwarding. Local IP Adr/ Start Port/ End Port/ Protocol Enabled Tell me what to add in there and I just add 6346 in Limewire, force ip and that's it? If the information you will give to me cannot be viewed by public, please send me a private message. Last edited by deafguy; February 20th, 2005 at 04:12 PM. |

First, you information looks fine. I didn't study in detail but a simple glance says to me at least that everything is okay. I assume that you realize that your download speed is limited by the upload speed of the other end? This has been said over and over gain in this thread. Let me give you a simple example. Me 6Mbps / Down < = In OtherPeers 2Mbps / Down = > in 768Kbps /Up Out = > 256Kbps /Up <= out Because Most P2P programs show the transfer speeds in KiloBYTES and not Kilobits you have to do the conversion. Me 6Mbit / 8 = 750KB - 20% for overhead = 600KB 768Kbit /8 = 96KB - 20% for overhead = 76.8KB Therefore, your maximum upload and download speeds as indicated by limewire will be 600KB in and 76.8KB out. let's make the same calculations for the other side. Otherpeers 2Mbit/ 8 = 250KB - 20% for overhead = 200KB 256Kbit / 8 = 32KB - 20% for overhead = 25.6KB So, 25.6KB is the maximum this host would be able to send data to anyone. However, there's another factor Let's say that the other peer has his settings set to: 3 upload slots and 5 files per user. Let say that all slots are full and there are three people uploading from this user 25.6KB / 3 = 8.5KB or less per user is allocated. That's it! Now imagine the same situation where the person only have 128Kbps and they have their settings set to limit their upload bandwidth to 25% of their upload capacity Here's the math: 128Kbit / 8 = 16KB - 20% for overhead = 12.8KB /3 users = 4.26KB per user soft limit set to 25% of upload capacity (0.25 * 4.26KB) = 1KB per user. Unless there's something about your situation that makes you beleive that this is not the case. #1 you have not stated that here and #2 this is usually the problem and there's nothing you can do about it. Hope this helps.

yea i know how upload speed is much less than dl speed and ur limited to speed of other people but i figured if your downloading very popular files with many sources you should have no problems. It seems that with even very popular files i download them ok for a little while but then after a while it goes to 0 it pretty much always happens and is very frustrating. Is limewire the best peer to peer software? I seemed to do ok with kazaa before. Other problem is I have a dynamic IP and have had to forward ports and set my ip address to that of my router as it changes all the time. how can i make it so people can download off me? |

Re: push ip test Quote:
/tools/statistics/advanced (enable here) /upload/general firewall to firewall connection statistics. If you want to know about your results (when you are downloading from someone else). sample location /upload/ select the stats just above general.
