![]() Dear Calstylin The way you outline your connection makes me think that you are on a dial up connection or are sharing your broadband connection with you brother or other members of your family. Which one is it? Do you dial up to the Internet? Or are you sharing the one connection with other people in your house. If the later is true then their network activities will impact your downloads. Let me know. Quote:

![]() What are the specs on your computer (CPU,MEM, Internet Connection etc.) I would start by making sure your computer is not acting as an ultrapeer. Also the cause of system slowdowns is virus infections and spyware. You could start by downloading the Anti Spyware Tool from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en You should also check to see if you have any malicious software running on your system. http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx Check those two out and let us know what happens. ![]() Whenever you are downloading videos in limewire you have the ability to preview the movie downloads. Obviously this is not true for files delivered in other formats. Perhaps a glance at the user manual is in order. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/userguide.shtml Quote:

![]() We didn't phrase our question correctly. We did try the preview for this particular video and it did not work (although previously it has - preview did not open), so we made a copy of the partially downloaded file (about 50%) and opened it in the VLC player (which usually works even for files which have the pieces downloaded separately) and it showed a black screen as it played with no sound. Of course, this should have given us a clue as to what was coming, but we decided to finish the download and see anyway, but it is still stuck at 98%. Usually the VLC player allows you to see enough of a preview that you can at least see what the file is and approximate quality. I guess this is the best we can do.... However for an application etc you can't preview it, so don't know until you have downloaded it all. It seems that there should be more information attached to the files so one can tell. Is there anyway to do this, other than use a different software for downloading from a torrrent, which does have information attached to it? I like Limewire and it behaves well, more than I can say for Azureus. |

![]() Limewire never lets me preview any movies im downloading no matter what % the movie is downloaded. So I always have to download the WHOLE movie to figure out it is crappy.... more times than not they are good copies of movies, but I would still love to be able to stop downloading if it is the wrong movies etc... can someone please help me with maybe why it will not let me preview any movie files, it ussually will start my media player and than my media player will say its shutting down cuz there was a problem... this happens EVERYTIME. |

![]() I'd say your problem is a codec issue.... These codecs are for XP..... Download XP Codec Pack 2.0.7.1 - XP Codec Pack is one of the most complete codec pack You could also get the VLC media player it's free and has all the codecs pre-installed, it is one of the most reliable players out there... VLC media player - Overview To make the VLC media player your default player... To make VLC your default player Go to your shared folder (outside of Limewire) you will find this folder by clicking on one of your files in your LW library and clicking explore... Right click on one of your movie files Select open with Select choose program select VLC and tick the box that says always use this program to open this file type Select OK Also Bitzi is very handy, this link will explain what it is and how to use it... How to use Bitzi Web Lookup .. & How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect/Browse/Chat

![]() I installed the codec for XP and it still didn't work.. is there some sort of setting you put it at? I can open the videos after they are downloaded from the shared file, but when I push preview on this one video that I have at %63 it brings up windows media and than says it has caused and error and must shut down... So after trying that a few times, I went and downloaded this VLC media player... went to the shared folder chose to open it and all other files with it and the videos that are in the shared file all play on it automatically but when I go to the video I am trying to download thats at %63 it automatically opens windows media player and the same thing happens saying it has to shut down... am I missing something? |
