Umm. Lee Ware. I have a question. I have just downloaded limewire pro and tried to download some music. After I imputted it, there was a pop up that said :Limewire is currently trying to connect to the network. Your search may not return many results until u are fully connected to the network. I am fully connected to the internet and i checked all my connections and they are fully inserted. What does that mean and what should i do and look out for. Everytime i tryed to download this message appears. |

Closing Comments Dear Regulator, There are a few things you should be aware of. 1) I do have LimeWire installed and configured correctly as I've built my CDN (Content Distribution Network on top of it.) I've distributed 4,838,950 (4.8 million) files most of which have been distributed via LimeWire although I've tried other clients from time to time. To be fair, I use LimeWire in a slightly different fashion than most users. That is most people use it to get stuff from the network. I use it to publish stuff on the network. Therefore, my interests is counter to the P2P culture at large. 2) Think of LeeWare Development as a small ISP. I run my own infrastructure resources -- All of my nodes are in bastion environment (not protected by any firewalls etc.) I avoid about 98% of security problems by properly configuring my systems. I've done some pretty interesting things with P2P clients that is figuring out how different configurations impact uploads and downloads. I have enough resources to test this from both ends. Therefore, much of my advise come from experience not just stuff I make up just to sound important. It's simply not necessary for me to do that. I don't have any of the problems that people in this forum have. I do this because I like helping people if I can. This brings me to my third point. 3) I don't get paid to support LimeWire. I do this out of simple kindness. Therefore, I am not obligated to invest any significant amount of time energy or resources to helping someone else solve a problem. That seems to be of a nature that would best be address by the developers of the product and not some guy in a forum. 4) There are other reasons to pay for the PRO edition of LimeWire beyond any of the marketing hype -- Such as supporting the developers for producing a great product. I've bought every version I've had of the product accept for the earliest ones.

Answer to Your Question. Quote:
There are two places you can check the status of your connectivity to the gnutella network. 1) lower right hand corner of the screen Qualityshows your current connectivity status) 2) check the connection tab (shows if you are connected to other gnutella clients - Ultrapeers and how long you've been connected.) If you computer is attempting to connect for more than a few minutes there is a problem. Hope this helps.

Limewire Exclusive net connection Thanks for the setup info. I have a couple of questions I think maybe you can help me with..if you have the time of course... Specs: Win98se,466mhz,196meg of ram Cable internet--100kps Limewire Pro4.8.1 Mozilla browser GaduGadu(GG) instant messanger program (It's a polish based program) FreeRamXP Here's the sceinerio--FreeRam runs all the time...sometimes it gets a little hung but that is not too difficult to deal with. With nothing open-- I open Limewire first..Nothing else will connect to the net. Open GG or Mozilla first and then Limewire, it's all good but at somepoint in time....Mozilla lose's the connection to the net and I have to close Limewire, reopen Moz and start again. GG doesn't lose its connection. Limewire seems to dominate my internet connection. Second question, When I went to pro I thought I would get faster speeds and more searches, this is not the case. My total d/l speed is about 23kb... When I search I get 11 hits....ON EVERYTHING, well not everything...but on the top listings...there is only 11, sometimes 12 files....but the main number is 11, like its a limit or something... When I first went to pro...about 30 minutes ago... I did return some searches and got 50 returns on some searches, I got excited...but it has now gone back down and I am totally confused. I'm not computer illiterate..but I am when it comes to p2p. Well, not totally illiterate. Any input would be great...Thanks for your support Doug |

Limewire Connectivity Dear Doug, Thanks for the information. If you are not conducting any data transfers that is, uploads or downloads limewire uses very little of your connection about 23Kbps or 3KB. It would help if you conducted some speed test while not running anything else and posting your results here. You can use the following url: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtests This will provide the bet measure of your transfer capabilities. As for the issue with exactly 11 results showing up for most results -- I noticed that too and I'm not sure why that happens. Regarding your upgrade to the pro version I never buy the pro version for more performance but rather just to support the developers. The pro version does give you a little better reach in to the network by connecting you to a few more ultrapeers. Problems with download speeds have been talked about all over the forum and extensively in this thread. Look through the thread and follow the conversations that deal with download speeds. Hope this helps.
