Configuration may be wrong I have been using LimeWire on a dial up modem for some time but just recently purchased a broadband connection. I ran a test for my connection speed using tcpIQ Line Speed Meter V.3.0 (thank you LOTR) and my resuts were as follows : Download speed : 1599.31 KBits/sec or 199.91 KBytes/sec Upload speed : 136.07 KBits/sec or 17.01 KBytes/sec How high do I set my maximum number of simultaneous d/l's? At what speed should I set my u/l's? I have seen no higher than 120kB/s d/l on simultaneous set to 20 and 11kB/s u/l set on unlimited. According to my connection I should be seeing close to 200kB/s d/l and 17kB/s u/l, is that right? Could someone please give me an answer as to why I can't reach these figures? If it were me I would set my UL slots at 3 and bandwidth at 10 or 12 and I would disable UP you do not have allot of UL bandwidth to spare. I have my max # of DL set at 50. I do not know that this makes any difference it is just where I run and it works for me. My educated guess, ( the reason I say educated I have done allot of testing with this) seeing speeds of 120 UL 11 DL when running your UL at max and trying to DL at max you are probably creating a bottle neck. Thus when you are DL LW needs to communicate with the host and let them know what packets you have received. And if you are UL at max it has to wait in line to send it's message to your host. I like to have at least 5kb of spare UL bandwidth if I am DL heavily. I believe that my explanation is correct and if it is not someone will correct it for me. I do not know if you are running XP or not but XP default settings are not very efficient. The tool below will allow you to adjust your MTU setting and also has some better pr set settings. It is freeware. http://www.cablenut.com/ There is also a very good forum at the cablenut site. http://www.broadbandnuts.com/index.php?board=12 Last edited by Grandpa; August 28th, 2005 at 10:50 PM. |

Thank you Grandpa I took your advice and have set my u/l slots to 3 and disabled Ultrapeer. I have also set my u/l bandwidth to 12kBytes/s. I do realise that my u/l speeds are pretty low. I have contacted my ISP and they tell me that these figures are normal for my connection. I try to d/l files with many sources but as we both know this isn't always the case. I am running Windows/XP and the Cablenut Tweaker doesn't seem to have an option for my O/S, which I don't think really matters. One other thing, when I set my d/l bandwidth lower than max, it drops to 40 odd kBytes/s. I have no problem getting files at 120kBytes/s and wonder if this will slow me down. Much appreciated. |

just a little recap on what's going on....i was just sitting here...wondering why i can't download at fast speeds. something told me to try a search on charter cable...which is my internet provider. I could not believe what came up....some posts were from 2001! They "Charter" have been black listing isp's...that is why the downloads only get up to 20kbs and then back down to 0kbs. they have even threatened some of the gnuetella network users that they would turn them in to the police...really shitty stuff if you ask me... I called them up to see if they were blocking p2p and they said they don't block or filter...which I truely believe is a lie... thanks for all the help from everyone...let me know if there is more I can do because I do love my limewire!!! |

Sharring Files Im having a slight problem with LimeWire, i have attempted many time to upload *** season 2 files to share with the network. There are only 7 episodes currently released and i have all 7 of them however i can only share 6. Episode 2 no matter what i do refuses to be acessable to others. LimeWire says that it has successfully uploaded yet there are no locations and you cannot see it when you search for it. File Name: *** Season 2 Episode 2 - The Intruder I understand that my files are read as the origional sharer of the file so limewire does not have thousands of the same file shared under different names. But this 1 file refuses to upload. Any help with this would be much appreciated. - There is no virus attached and no problems with the file itself, i have checked and double checked, even re burnt the entire file yet nothing has worked. We don't want to know the names of files you're uplding or downlding if they are copyright. I just downloaded and installed the most recent version of Lime Wire on my PC running windows XP home edition the computer I am using is one of 3 on my network. I use a linksys router I have put 100 movie files in my shared folder. When I go to library I see them and they are all getting Hits. I have not had one upload. Does this mean no one wants my files? OR... is it that they cannot upload files from me because of my network or firewall. ============ on a side note: when you search can you see your own files? ============== side note #2: what determines the quality of a file. In other words how do I get my stars? |
