Slow Computer Dear Grandpa Sorry I sent that message because I thought your last post was for me. I got Limewire from your site and only paid $18.00. My only problem in that when I us Limewire It slows my computer down so if I use other programs while it is running it takes 30second or longer to react to everything. even the limewire is slow loading taking about 1 1/2 to two minutes. All my downloads are 1-15kbs sometime one will go to 20kbs but never higher. It take me three to four days to get download. I have dsl and I have read some of the earlier posts and has the same problem plus the slow down. I just don't know what to do up until about four weeks ago limewire worked fine and I could us other programs and the internet while it was running. |

Greetings, We have gone through the 28 pages of posts so far on this thread as well as a few of the linked pages and have found some good answers to questions we had. Definately some good information in this forum. We have the problem when using Limewire that we can''t tell the quality of files downloaded until it is 100% downloaded. This was referred to a couple of times but no solution was offered. I wondered if anyone posts anywhere about the qualities of downloads. We have also been using the mac version of Azureus 2.3.0.2, which we really like. It works very well with the exception that it freezes our system almost every day a few times, requiring a hard restart with no force quits available. Not good! Been searching that forum also... We are on a Mac G4 1.5 MHz with system 10.3.9. The advantage of Azureus is that you can download a torrent after reading the posts on it (for example on demonoid.com (their server is down right now) and seeing that, then it is pretty much guaranteed to be a good file. Never had a bad one. With Limewire you have no guarantee and we just got one of those movie files which is dead and is now stopped at 98% with no sources. We also mistakenly got porno files a couple of times named as applications and videos both. Obviously a total waste of time and bandwidth. So, our question is, how can we determine the quality of a file with some sort of reliability before we download it. Also we are not sure if it is necessary but the term "forcing the IP" was discussed many times and we do not see this option in the Mac version of Limewire 4.9.4. This seems to be necessary in Azureus but not sure about Limewire. Are these questions appropriate for this forum? Thanks |

Dear Calstylin The way you outline your connection makes me think that you are on a dial up connection or are sharing your broadband connection with you brother or other members of your family. Which one is it? Do you dial up to the Internet? Or are you sharing the one connection with other people in your house. If the later is true then their network activities will impact your downloads. Let me know. Quote:

Look at the manual Perhaps you should read the manual http://www.limewire.com/english/content/userguide.shtml Quote:

Re: Slow Computer What are the specs on your computer (CPU,MEM, Internet Connection etc.) I would start by making sure your computer is not acting as an ultrapeer. Also the cause of system slowdowns is virus infections and spyware. You could start by downloading the Anti Spyware Tool from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en You should also check to see if you have any malicious software running on your system. http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx Check those two out and let us know what happens. A couple of answers Whenever you are downloading videos in limewire you have the ability to preview the movie downloads. Obviously this is not true for files delivered in other formats. Perhaps a glance at the user manual is in order. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/userguide.shtml Quote:

Previews We didn't phrase our question correctly. We did try the preview for this particular video and it did not work (although previously it has - preview did not open), so we made a copy of the partially downloaded file (about 50%) and opened it in the VLC player (which usually works even for files which have the pieces downloaded separately) and it showed a black screen as it played with no sound. Of course, this should have given us a clue as to what was coming, but we decided to finish the download and see anyway, but it is still stuck at 98%. Usually the VLC player allows you to see enough of a preview that you can at least see what the file is and approximate quality. I guess this is the best we can do.... However for an application etc you can't preview it, so don't know until you have downloaded it all. It seems that there should be more information attached to the files so one can tell. Is there anyway to do this, other than use a different software for downloading from a torrrent, which does have information attached to it? I like Limewire and it behaves well, more than I can say for Azureus. |
