No connection to self You cannot make connections to yourself. To determine if people can upload from you or if they are even trying check the stats column in the library tab. You will see numbers such as x/y where x = successful uploads and y = attempted uploads.

I don't have any problem sharing my files. I am an ubber Naruto/Bleach sharer and I have people downloading from me 24/7 literally with a success rate of about 6 out of 7. I just can't direct connect to myself. I gave my brother my IP and he can't direct connect to me either. I guess it's not a big deal, I was just curious. Either way though thanks for the help. |

Slow downloads/computer Having scrolled through endless pages about this isssue , I too have the same problems in that my computer slows down when using LW and my downloads are very slow, 1-9 Kbs, when I was downloading at a much higher download speed a few days ago. I have tried a few of the suggestions posted in various threads/posts but to no success!! Spec is: CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1.9 Ghz 756Mb Ram 120Gb & 60Gb Hard drives O/S: Windows XP Pro SP2 A/V: McAfee Internet Security Suite Microsoft Anti Spyware installed NTL broadband@ 1Mb, tested & not blocking p2p I have been downloading from emule @ 80Kbs tonight. If anyone can find a solution to this issue, please let us know!!!! Last edited by Lou947; December 14th, 2005 at 12:20 AM. |

I recently upgraded both LimeWire (4.8.1 to 9.3.37) and Windows (ME to XP) at the same time. Since this upgrade, I have not been able to download at the same speed I was at before the upgrades. My ISP says they do not limit P2P activity. My download / upload speeds have been tested today at 322 Kbps / 109 Kbps repectively. I have adjusted the sliders in LimeWire so that I am downloading at 36.75 KBps and uploading at 10.13 KBps. I have Norton anti-virus software that permits all with respect to LimeWire. Also, Windows Firewall has been disabled. I was able to acheive download speeds of up to 32 KBps before the upgrades. Now I generally get speeds of about 7 KBps regardless of the number of sources. I was able to witness an upload today of 11 KBps from my computer while I was downloading at 6 KBps. This seems wrong to me. I have read several threads on this topic and would greatly appreciate any suggestions that anyone has. |

Pokpok, I've been using Kaazaa for a very long time and just recently started trying LimeWire. My experience goes the other way around: with Kaazaa there were long waits, loads of useless searchresults and corrupted downloads, I found it much harder to find the music I was looking for and downloading took like forever. I find the up- and downloading speed, quality of the music, searchresults etc. much better with LimeWire. Any idea how it's possible that your experience with Kaazaa is so much better than mine? |

I have just installed Limeware and I've got to say it's the dog's thingies and mutt's nuts all rolled into one! I am currently downloading at around 120KB/s and uploading at 30KB/s. I have a 2GB broadband connection from Ntl. |

minimizing download success Hi everyone, Unlike everyone in this forum, I want to minimize download success and search results and here is why: I have limewire installed in my Windows XP Home machine and I'm trying to control or limit the search results and download sources because my teenager brother is downloading huge movie files and is eating up from my limited internet access that has only 3GB download quota per month. I don't want to use the options menu in Limewire to limit search results because my brother can change them back. I also don't want to block the port completely using router's configurations because then he'll be suspicious and try to fix it. Is there a way to handle this smartly since I don't want stop all the downloads, but instead decrease download sources and search results. Can I do it by configuring router or Windows XP settings so that my brother doesn't find out I changed settings? FYI: I'm using norton internet security as a firewall. I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks. |

ISP Differences ? At home and at work I use identical Macs (Dual 1.8 G5, OS X 10.4.4) with Limewire Pro 4.10.5. Work connection is SDSL, 1.1 Mb upload/download. Home connection is cable modem, 6 Mb down, 500 kbps up. Both copies of Limewire are configured identically with respect to search results & filters, etc. Bandwidth tests at work consistently report around 850 kbps up/down. At home, they report around 3.8 Mbps down, 350 kbps up. My problem: at work, even tho much slower connection, I can average Limewire downloads around 90-100 kbps. At home, supposedly 5-6 times faster, I only average around 10-20 kbps. I've been reading in posts about ISPs sometimes rate-limiting P2P download speeds; even tho I've called my home provider and they deny doing so, I'm still suspicious. Both home and work connections use static IP addresses. At work, there is a hardware firewall on the network that's been opened to Gnutella on port 6346. At home, I use a software firewall (NetBarrier), also opened to Gnutella on port 6346. Given all the above info, is there anything I can do to improve download speeds at home? Besides switching ISPs, what can be done if they rate-limit P2P ? |
