I have already done some speed tests on http://www.speakeasy.net, using a different server each time. Here are some results:
Test 1:
DL - 1793kbps = 224KB/s
UL - 224kbps = 28KB/s

Test 2:
DL - 1784kbps = 223 KB/s
UL - 218kbps = 27.3KB/s

Test results on http://pcpitstop.com :
DL - 1626 kbps = 203.3KB/s
UL - 208kbps = 26KB/s

For the file on http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml on LW, the speed ranged from 5KB/s to 25KB/s, but the average was around 15KB/s.

I have already checked out the thread 'Configure LW for best performance', but none of the tips helped (I didn't quite understand the purpose of step (f)).

I live in Singapore, so my ISP is a local company named StarHub (http://www.starhub.com).

Thank you very much for your help birdy.

Setting up a static IP is not dangerous and you only need to set one up on the computers you are using limewire on.

Thank you for your comment Grandpa.
But why can't I manually port forward with a dynamic IP? What is the difference between a static and dynamic IP?
Also, do you know anything about StarHub? Do you know anyone who uses a singaporean ISP who also has problems?

thanks in advance.

If you use the search (top right) to look for Starhub, you'll find a few threads from other users.

So the problem must be coming from my UPnP not enabled on my router. The only problem is I don't have the password... Thanks anyways.

The link below is to port forward your router for LimeWire you must use a static IP. The default password for your router is password. If you look at the instructions in the link it tells you the default password. And unless you or somebody else has changed it. It should be the default.

YAHOO! I finally got LW to work correctly and obtain decent downloading speeds. I found the password for my router and found out that UPnP was disabled. After enabling it I went back into LW and saw the red wall in front of the globe was gone!
My speeds are not that great (about 15KB/s for a 700Mb cable download), but definitely way much better than before (0-2KB/s)! But this can be fixed by further tuning LW to make it run to the max...

I have to say I couldn't have done this without your wonderful help, so thanks very VERY much for all those who gave up (and are still giving up) some of their time to help people like me. I know you guys aren't paid for this and volunteer to help, so thanks alot!Big thanks to birdy and Grandpa in particular who willingly replied to my posts and gave me some very helpful links.

Thanks guys.

Unhappy Regarding download problems

I have done all the things that Lee Ware has said to do, but I still have the same problem, after I attempt to download a song, the download fails and says: 'Disk Problem'.
Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?

this is kind of the wrong thread, this thread (if i remeber correctly) is about maximising your download speeds...your problem doesnt seem to come from a low download speed...and its probably a bug on one or more of three things:
your computer
Limewire
the other persons computer

try downloading it from someone else and try downloading a song of a similar size, possibly a similar speed 9f you can find one. then see what happens and if it still fails its probably you version of limewire or your pc..i sugest starting a new thread or looking through the other threads to cure this problem...please do not hijack threads..esp this useful one
