"Awaiting Source" means that the host(s) of the file you're trying to download is(are) not online.
"Need Source" means that no host has been found for the file you're trying to download at the time you're online.
So, let's say you open LW and you have some files from an earlier search in your download window. If the host(s) of the file is online, LW will try to connect you with it. If LW doesn't get a positive respond (i.e. no hosts are online for that file), it will show you "need source(s). If you click "find source" LW will try to find online hosts for your file. If it can't find any, it will start a time counter (usually 300 sec.) after which it will go to awaiting source. It will check frequently whether the host(s) of the file has come online.

Question Upload problem - 'banned greedy servent'?

I have a different problem with Limewire. Users trying to get more than 10 or 15 of my files are branded 'banned greedy servent'. Any reason why? I don't have any restrictions on my uploads, but it happens all the time. I am using Limewire Pro - newest version. HELP - Thanx all.

If a person tries to download to many files at a time and take up more slots than you allow, LimeWire will ban them from downloading from you and classify them as a greedy user. You can set how many files a person is allowed by going to Tools/Options/Uploads/Slots.

Question Four Stars or One Star???

How do you find out how your 'own' files you are sharing are rated (1 to 4 stars) for 'uploads' to another user? Sounds easy enough to do, but I need HELP. Thanx.

The rating is not done by users, it is done by LW itself through analysing your download speed, the amount of time you're online with the client and the probability for other users to finish their download from you.
I'm not a developer, so I can't tell you what other information it uses...
