Big B, It looks like you may need to portforward your d-Link. see here.
Port Forwarding for the D-Link WBR-1310.
Also need to know what version Java you have. In Limewire go to help then about Limewire and that will tell you what versions of LW and also Java.
You say that you have two firewalls. Turn off Windows firewall and allow full access to Limewire in the Norton firewall.
Try these steps and lets us know how you come out.

Hi, after reading many posts I am still unable to speed up my limewire. I have done a test on speedtest.net and my results were:
Download - 810 kb/s
Upload - 158 kb/s
On average I am downloading at about 40 kb/s. The maximum I have ever downloaded is around 115 kb/s. When the speed test says I can download at 810 kb/s I wish to be downloading on limewire at at least 700 kb/s. Can somebody please help me saying how I can manage this? Thanks in advance.

1. OS version? Windows XP Home
2. What firewalls you have? Spyware Guard, Windows Firewall
3. How much ram? 504mb
4. Hard Disk space available? 27.8gb
5. Connection type? broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? linksys wag54gs
7. Where are you trying to connect from? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? limewire pro 4.13.2, java 1.6.0_02
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? freedom2surf
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? the page says "your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. in my house there are 2 laptops and 1 pc connected to my router.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I have never had maximum speeds but have only just realised how fast I should be able to download.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? no

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? sorry i dont understand this
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. avg free edition
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). united kingdom

001721,

Freedom2surf are traffic shaping during peak hours.
Traffic Management Profile Change - Freedom2Support Forums
Try downloading outside of peak hours & see if your speeds improve.

You could try changing ports...no guarantees that it will help, but it's easy enough to try. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Chenge LW's listening port to 64049 (or something in the range of 49152 - 65535) > Apply > ok.

Don't get confused between kilobits & kilobytes. 1 byte = 8 bits. So if your speed test gave you 810 kb/s that's roughly 100 KB/s. LW measures download speed in KB/s.

Misty Lady,

There's no force IP option in LW any more. I'm sure when the option was removed but it was a long time ago.

Hello: Assume your 810 down & 158 up is bits, not Bytes. My 1st question is; are you getting close to your signed up speeds when NOT using LW or other p2p's? If you are, then likely your ISP 'freedom2surf' is throttling your DOWNload bandwidth whenever your are using p2p. If everything is very slow downloading, you have a tech problem that your ISP should help you solve. There is no mystery about 'UPnP'; while in LW click Tools/Options and scroll far down to Advanced...second below it is config w/ recommended selection UPnP, which auto-manages your system, including router. If you cannot enable UPnP, read Big-B's post just above yours, which deals with manual port forwarding for routers etc. Just to give you a comparison speed test, dslreports.com is very good. It should approximate your other speed test and even with a 2500 mile test (West Coast for me), your latency should be well below 50. I hope it is your configuration, because if it is ISP download throttling, you will have to find another ISP without it (ask them), which are getting quite hard to find. Best I can do. Regards, caseybob

Unhappy How do you force?

Question

How do you force your IP address within limewire? I went to the suggested website to obtain my IP address, but do not know how to FORCE THE IP to the network. Could someone please tell me how to do this? I believe it can help my download experience much better.

According to what I have read, the latter versions don't offer that function anymore. Do you possibly have a firewall problem?
You may need to portforeward your router/modem.

If you list the make and model # I can check it out for you, or you can go here.

Hi all, new to the forum today.

Been using Limewire without any problem until I got a bad virus and worm last week and had to format the C: and do a fresh re-install of everything.
Everything is working again EXCEPT Limewire.
Whatever version I download and run, I end up with 2 icons on my desktop. The program seems to have loaded as everything LOOKS normal when running.
I do a search, pick a song and press the Green Download button...and nothing happens. I've disabled my Firewall, no change. I've followed instructions re: creating exceptions..still no downloading.
The only thing different with my PC from before the re-install is that I removed the Soundcard I was using and am now using on-board sound.
Help please. I miss my LimeWire.
Thanks in advance
