Thumbs up thank you-thank you

Hello there..my name is Deloriesj and I am new to Gnutella. I have Windows XP Media Center 2005. I have used [basic limewire] for about three years now(no problem) and a couple of weeks ago I deleted it and monday decided to go with LimewirePro. I had nothing but trouble wasn't able to download anything at all. I also kept getting the same disk problem error...I went in my system defraged and that did nothing so I deleted files from my hard drive-NOTHING..I searched and searched the forum and tried everything I could think of.......Finally I came across this thread...thank you so much..I went to options and then the transfers...this is where I slid the bandwidth bar ---> all the way to the right to maximum my band width. I have been working on this for three days. Thanks again for the help.

Default Unable to Download

My first post.

I've been using the old version of limewire for over a year with no problems - mostly for video downloads via torrents.

This week I downloaded the new version and paid extra for the Pro version, however in trying to download a video I've got nowhere, it will not download this is the first time this has happened. I'm 97% complete and it's taking me 5 days to get this far - usually it takes less than 5 hours.

This question may already have been answered (i.e. I need patience) but I've never had any problems before - if I don't use torrents do I have to wait until my required video appears in my limewire search?

Help!

Only if anybody shares it on Gnutella. However, torrents & gnutella networks & files are totally different. Your torrent file will not continue via gnutella. There may be alternative or equivalent version as the you are downloading via torrents.

Hello Group,

I am currently using Limewire v5.1.12. What were you thinking? I do not think there needs to be a share with friends, or email connection in this software. You should have put your efforts into designing search features, downloading and uploading faster. What happened to sqearching by album? What happened to searching for artist? These are not availabel as you may think. There are some files that appear when attemptign to do specific search that make no sense.

I do agree with some of these users that LW v4 had a better search feature and that is what you shoudl have worked on and not adding email and friends.

Also, I have tried several times to write to this group and no response. I am hoping for better this time around. When you pay for money for a service getting a reply to questions should be expected.

Have a good weekend.

If you want to give feedback about LW 5, post over at the LW forums. The developers will see your post there (the helpers here are volunteers - we don't work for LW) There's a section for comments about LW 5. LimeWire Forums

You can search by artist or album in LW 5. Click on the All button > Advanced Search. If you click on Audio, you'll see text fields for Title, Artist, Album, Genre etc. And if you just do a general search, you can refine the results to show only the artist or album that you're interested in. Once the search is underway, type the artist or album into the 'Refine Results' text field... then only those results will show.

If you're seeing spam files in your searches, check out this thread for info about adding words to LW's keyword filter & lots more general info: How to find music

Birdy,

Thank you. You gave me more helpful information than the FAQ's.

Default downloading files

why is it with this new 5.3 Limewire very few selections come up with each title entered. I'm using Win XP pro. I used to always get selections with bit rates in the 256KB or 320 KB now I only get 128KB mostly Thanks, Mark Donatelli

Default Is there greater protection if you use a STEALTH port?

Hello,

I'm using Windows XP
cable modem
Limewire 5.3.6
and
Zone Alarm Extreme Security (with filesharing protection enabled and all protection is selected in the Advance firewall) The firewall is set to block packets, trusted servers, internet servers, and ARP protection. This firewall with the settings mentioned is connected to the "STEALTH" NetBios port that is being used for Limewire's "listening port." The computer is set up as a client of an ICS/NAT Gateway running Zone Alarm Extreme Security.

I haven't been able to find an answer to this question on Google or on this forum.

How does a netbios port that is "STEALTH" react when used as my listening port in Limewire?

I would think it would provide greater protection against being tracked by hackers or me downloading a virus.

Another question: Does the person you downloaded the file from have to put virus or spyware in the download in order to track you or cause malicious intent? Would a "stealth port" as mentioned above offer protection against being tracked by hackers or spyware or viruses?

Look forward to your answer,

file_sharing

Someone else can probably answer the question much better than I can. AFAIK Stealth mode is simply placing the computer into a mode where nobody can discover it except via excepted firewall programs; ie: the computer does not respond to the many pings that may come from various sources including hackers & such.

I run Mac OSX & Stealth is turned on when firewall is running. It does not affect LW or Azureus.

Perhaps that does not exactly answer your question, not sure.
