Default Java Errors

HELP!!!!! PLEASE!! I installed Limewire and the JRE that's required and when I go to open Limewire it errors during loading options. I'm running windows 98. I have repeatedly uninstalled both and reinstalled both also have tried downloading from different locations, same problem. Please can anybody help? I can't seem to find any other posts with this problem. I have Limewire on my Mac OS 9 and it works great, but need to get it on my PC. Error reads:

Assertion Failed!
Program:......gram
files/javasoft/jre/1.3.1_04\bin\javaw.exe
File:
../../../src/share/native/sun/awt/font/fontmanage
Line:272

Expression: offset file size < fFile size

For information on how your program can an assertion failure see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts

Press retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled

Amy:

Try opening my computer, double click the Java icon, click the browser tab and if either IE or Netscape are checked uncheck them. This will sometimes fix your problem.

Good Luck,

Norm

Sorry Amy,

You already did most of the things I would recommend and have the Java version I would recommend.

In case you haven't done it in this order you might try removing Java from the add/remove programs, remove Limewire, reinstall Limewire. Start Limewire and it will advise that you must have Java. It will suggest a download path. Accept it and download Java.

I have fooled with the Java / Limewire issues a lot & it doesn't seem to always follow the rules. I wish I could be more help.

Smile java errors

Thanks Norm,

After trying what you said, I was discouraged and sat and hit the ignore button about 10 times and what do you know!! Limewire loaded and I'm downloading now. Who knows if it will work again, but I'm on for now. Thanks Amy

Amy:

That's interesting. I appreciate you letting me know. I am glad it worked and hope it keeps working for you. It is very frustrating to have problems like that.
